So, I finished the story… I think… But it just feels so, incomplete.
Are the rest of the story for this expansion going to come along the Season, or was this it? An entire expansion that kinda just feels like a filler arc.
If this is what we can expect from Diablo 4 going forward, I’m done with this game. Seriously, paying 40€ just to be left blueballed on the story feels really bad. So what, now in a year or two, you expect us to pay 40€ again to get the next filler arc? No thank you.
Seriously, what happened to actually releasing games with full, fleshed out stories, instead of this “Oh we’re gonna make a trilogy”-nonsense!

You literally did get full story of this expansion
it’s called vessel of hatred it was literally about the stone
and you basically failed to do what you supposed to do
that to me is finally some good story telling
I prefer when they build their story
I dislike d3 for that reason i like gampleay but the story was so bad
bosses were like oh here is asmodan kill him you just get there and smack the hell out of him? cringe
mephisto is one of the strongest evils
why would you fight him when you don’t even know your ROOTs
did you not notice that humanity on sanctuary lost all knowledge about what they are?
did you not know that malthael succeded and did what he wanted?
why do you think we are not on the other side of the sanctuary right now?
i like this story because they are bulding it from the scratch
and doing a very good job
vessel of hatred was about the stone
and now you have your vessel of hatred and it’s called akarat
and i will bet with you that they will do next chapter in patch and i also prefer that
imagine wanting everything in 2 hours

and you will fight akarat
In Diablo 1, we went and killed 1 Prime Evil.
In Diablo 2, we went and killed 2 Lesser Evils and all 3 Prime Evils.
In Diablo 3, we went and killed 2 Lesser Evils and then a combined Prime Evil, then a Fallen Angel.
In Diablo 4, we have killed 4 Lesser evils and a manifestation of a Prime Evil.
So it’s not really like I’m asking to have everything right away, but at least let us actually progress and feel we’re doing something. Having an entire expansion and all we manage to kill is a Manifestation of a Prime Evil was kinda pathetic, compared to the stories and content we’ve gotten in the earlier games.
Like the Cinematic we get with the Armies of Light marching on Hell, an entire army with an Angel at their backs, storming the Fortress of a Prime Evil… That was what a group of 5 adventurers did to the Fortress of Terror in Diablo 2.
Also, I wouldn’t see the problem in using both Asmodan and Belial again, as they are simply Lesser Evils like Andariel and Duriel. They just got overly ambitious in Diablo 3
All what you are describing is cool when you look at it
but from a story perspective it’s idiotic
How the hell you are able to go from killing random low demons in act 1 into killing lesser evil?
that not supposed to happen when you forgot your roots
you are no longer nephalem and if you are you are weak as hell…
This approach they took is miles better then it was before because now they can build and hype the villain and can make him harder then was lilith on release
and i would like that
BTW the last boss of expansion is basically aspect of mephisto
and it was pretty fun and cool fight
So i’m ok with not fighting him immediately because if they did this with aspect
imagine how cool the fight with him is gonna be.
I personally really liked story of this expansion and basic D4 story with lillith was very good
i would even say D4 from all diablo franchise is having a best story right now.
Guess it’s just because I’m used to the older Diablo Games, where we didn’t need some long-winded story, where we still go from battleing simple Demons to taking down a Lesser Prime Evil. Then we battle a bunch of more demons and take down Lilith. Literally the same as we did in Diablo 2.
The only difference is, that now we have to listen to a bunch of boring dialogue about peoples feelings, and how they thought they had totally figured out a way to do, what the horadrim has failed to do for thousands of years and it turns out, it failed again!
Honestly, when I buy a non-MMO Story-driven game or an Expansion for said game, I expect to be given a full story with a beginning and an ending, not just a seasonal story. So far I’ve spend over 100€ just on the Base game and Expansion, and I’ve yet to even see the shadow of the actual games Namesake Villain.
They’re attempting to draw out the game, because they know they will eventually have to compete with Path of Exile 2, and they’re likely saving all their big names and moments for when that time comes. And then suddenly we’re gonna be battleing all 3 Prime evils in a single expansion and the story will be thrown to the wind for a quick nostaligia moment.
Edit: Also, have our heroes or Deckard or anyone from the previous games not made accounts of their stories and encounters? We had Mephisto in a Soulstone, why were everyone wondering what to do with him? Why weren’t we bee-lining to the Hellfire Forge to complete the original Plan and destroy his soul for good. The only reason we failed doing that in Diablo 2, was due to the Black Soulstone munching up the soul instead of letting it get destroyed.
Now you’re getting it. It’s all about money. Drip feed, water down, drawn out, etc etc. All new methods to make more $$.
The story is incomplete and the writing is insulting my intelligence with the forced real world analogies and their absolute nonsense resolution. As if somebody promted an AI to write it. The ideas are fine but the execution is on fanfiction level. If you had fun - good for you but fun does not make the story good… or deep and complex. But gameplay is fun except the season mechanic ---- that walker thing is boring and unrewarding. So thats that: Bad story but good gameplay is my verdict.
What bothers me is in D1-3 the story was complete on release or at the very least came to a semi satisfying conclusion without any add-ons. There were teases of a continuing of the story, yes but if you haven’t played the add-ons for 2 and 3 you could still be satisfied with the ending. This is not the case in 4 and that bothers me. I want to be able to finish the initial story and have a proper ending even without the add-ons and then have the add-ons continue the story like in D2 and 3.
