I really don’t get this bit, I mean I do and I don’t.
They force online for the shop, is that it?
I just levelled to 100 and I have never actually done anything with anyone - like never did a dungeon with a group, or a farm session with some random. In fact the whole experience seems geared for offline yet we’re all forced to play with each other even though we don’t, or at least there is no reason to. It’s so depressing.
I want this game to do well but when I log on there is nothing to do except look at my pretty self and try to convince myself that there is a game in amongst all the beautiful loading screens that brainwash me into thinking there is a game …there’s got to be …the loading screens b-b-b-but I look so good, the game looks so good!
I thought we would find people randomly in the world, running together for a bit until we split up.
Thought it would be procedurally generated maps. I imagined that there’d be choices on where to go, like harder and easier routes or a town for selling and such.
That was really wrong.
Anyway, that’s why I bought in. Meet people randomly and fight monsters together.
But it’s worthless with others in the world because they’re either trailing behind you or you’re trailing behind them.
The fun of the game is killing monsters and because of that there’s no point to go marginally faster having someone else kill everything or the other way around that you are. There’s no reason for cooperation.
For the hardest content there might be a point but not really. There’s no synergy so if you can’t solo it you’ll die anyway or be a useless meat shield.
Game’s pulling towards instanced dungeons also, not the content I was looking for. I wanted to roam the world.
The only reason for online is drm then and to give the illusion of company.
There’s also a relative value of things. Having great gear is a point of pride and we can compare the items. But honestly that’s largely uninteresting and particularly so since it doesn’t matter what someone else has since they can’t really help us anyway.
I was hoping they’d go further with world bosses and legions and maybe they will but the main point with this game was the world for me. Without a focus on making the world the regular place to play and find company, useful company, it’s just dead before it even started for me.
I tried it, had my hours of fun and it was good. Now it’s done and over. They’re leaning into instances, which cannibalises Diablo 3 and offers nothing fresh.
It’s done, I see no future in D4. It’s better than D3 but not by much and it feels like I payed for a beta. Great beta though, worth if you’re bored. You can stop when you start farming Duriel. Just run that a couple of times. It doesn’t matter if you get anything, you don’t need it so don’t fret about it. Once you’ve done that u can turn off the game and uninstall. Take it slow and easy, there’s truly no rush to go anywhere. The best parts is the early game when the world is still relevant. After that it’s … boring.
Did I mention every character has one or two builds in total?
Yea well, there’s no reason for this to be online but digital rights management.
Yes, and you kill World Boss with group in 10 s. That they call Multiplayer game. When playing in group you should be even chare items like in D3. Then there was something sense to do it, and yes the game is dead.
I’m pretty sure the only reason the game is online is for blizzard to protect their intellectual property, the mechanics behind the game. Also, since this is a blizzard company decision I doubt it will become an offline game.
… maybe once the game dies a true death and is taken down permamently, blizzard might release an offline version… but I wouldn’t bet on it.
The public realm where you are always in the world with others makes the gaming experience immensely realistic, there is no lobby, there is the entrance to the city (and the servers oh well…). I think that even if some people don’t like it, it’s one of the strengths of this Diablo 4. Honestly in 2023 an internet connection can also be found with a portable modem and a data SIM…
Wait… you’re saying that because other players are running around (albeit like 2-3) the city that’s a big plus? Umm isn’t that supposed to happen in an online game?
The difference with Diablo is that there is zero interaction with those other cardboard cut-outs zooming past, none.
Let me put it this way if there was auto-generated (AI) chat in happening in the channels and just bots running I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. As I said level 1-100 I didn’t party up with anyone to do anything meaningful once!
Being online is a complete waste of time unless they change something but this isn’t one of the things that will get changed. Nor will any real meaningful change because they don’t seem capable of making fun content. So I’ve already hung up my boots and quit the game. Campaign was ok the rest was painful. Hard to believe there was so little depth, so little creativity, so little fun. Part of me is sort of in disbelief. This one hurt. But it’s fine I’ve closed my stall to my once-beloved Blizz no longer will I spend anymore money on their ideas. I quit WOW also. I just have to accept that the good ol’ days of this company striving only to make great games is long over. It’s all money and PR. Gold-painted-monetized-shallow-grind-loops are all that remain. Sad times.
Yes, I am commending my opposition. But I have nothing further to add or dispute.
You are right, they’re shadows and doesn’t matter. There’s no where for us to go together.
But you exaggerate it doesn’t help for anything knowing that someone is nearby. It’s comforting and interesting. Perhaps you meet your woman there on the streets of internet, who knows. Or your best friend forever. Or just a nice roflol could happen at any moment.
I’ve also quit. Maybe I will reinstall. The season was pretty fun. Maybe I’ll play next one with less expectations. Like I won’t try anything. I won’t go kill the Duriel equivalent hundreds of times. I’ll just play casually because the game only holds for casual play. And with casual I mean I will just kill some stuff and then log off. But idk if I will even think that’s fun.
It’s been more than a decade since Blizzard made a good game.
I line that. I have all what I need in this game. I play twice a day little while and run legions or World bosses because there is nothing else to do. It is very sad thing.
Happy New Year to all players.
Do you really want to know why the game is online only? to obviously buy the skins discounted at 20\30 euros! a deal! and show them to your friends! that’s the only reason… and to think that there are people who buy them too
I lvl like 18 seasons in d3 to lvl 70 never did anything with anyone also
I lvl up to 100 in S2 never interacted with another player
I wouldn’t be mad for a SSF mode for Diablo 4 where you are literally in your own game and only see people in town like in POE
It would be very good to add SSF cause i don’t like when people have advantages in solo when it’s clear they have been farming game in group…
Diablo 3 had this problem for YEARS you couldn’t compete for rank as SSF player because there was this 4 player meta or whatever it was
And Diablo licence are games made of “rush to powercreep”. You can’t make play together people who can solo kill world bosses in 10 seconds and people who are leveling. Diablo is, by essence, a game impossible to be freely cooperative. Maybe premade groups but no way for open MMO.
An other problem is that meta builds let you think you cross always the same player… yeah you know this sorcerer with all electric balls. And when you cross an other player, it means, you can’t kill any mob or this other player can’t do the same. It destroy fun and bring Diablo gameplay no more than a cookie clicker when you just run after someone else.
yes well, this happens a bit in all multiplayer games… Each game has an internal cost or currency. For developers, it’s a job, not a hobby or a favor they do to us gamers…
