Why is there no couch coop for PC?

Hi I see there is no couch coop in diablo 4 for PC. I understand this is available on console only? Is this going to be implemented in the final version? I am very disappointed, it was a very important feature for me.

Good thing better focus on the game right? Than add things that break or bug the game. Perhaps in the future when the final done with the game.

Blizzards excuse is that consoles have a feature to allow multiple logins and pcs dont. Its either to complex for them to add multiple logins or they cant be bothered.

I find this excuse bewildering and pathetic. Why on earth having two battlenet accounts logged into one pc is too hard for a huge company like blizzard unless they put more effort to their drm than gameplay.

Why on earth dont they just use one account logged in and two chars on that one account if they really cant manage to do it properly?

I think you are right. If they have it on console, why cant we have it as well?
If 2 accounts are the problems, lets us just use 2 characters from the same account.
More options is always a win.

A console is a controlled and limited environment which the PC is not at all.

I see the worries from here, with an exploitation of the bots to run 4 bots on the same game, so multiplying by 4 the number of bots possible on a machine, you could run 20, cool, now you will have 80! You had 7000 in one bot farm, now 28000!

Just like the design of battle.net to rethink, so the whole system behind and this could impact the security and the functioning of other games, the consoles do the work for you on a console and avoid having to rework a whole part your architecture.

I love it when people with no knowledge in a field explain that the person who masters the field is a liar and a lazy bum

This is actually a good question that i have wondered myself. Would be nice to be able to experience couch play from a pc with your family just like you would with a console.

Your security arguments are of limited perspective for a few reasons.

  1. I stated reasons blizzard have officially given not ones pulled out of a hat nor ones of my own. You are making some up.

  2. Security as you describe is irrelevent in environment where friends and family couch coop and are interested in solo or group play with known actors and dont care about competitions. That is why some games allow offline/online chats to be different security wise.

  3. If the game where off line like diablo 3 was on console it wouldnt matter security wise. Its not as if d4 needs online connectivity but that is another debate to some extent.

  4. There is no official auction house if there is also no way to trade who cares if there are bots because they cant make real money.

  5. There are very many competive games out there which take steps to limit bots or hacking and ban accounts all of which spring to mind as not having couch coop. Bots and security are not caused by coop couch play they happen anyway. There will be security breaches with d4 anyway even without coop couch play.

  6. Not allowing couch coop does not limit how many instances of a game can potentially run on one PC. You can still potentially run n number of instances and bots on one PC even if you cant hVe two real players enjoying couch coop.

Why not think the issue through from multiple perspectives or at least deal with what Blizzard said.

As to your opinion of what i know… its very easy to flame people online when you have absolutely no idea of their game development credentials… but irrespective of my background i like playing d3 4 player coop with the family on the sofa so im disappointed thats not possible on my xbox or my top tier pc.

I don’t understand the connection with the discussion, to be honest. I’ll assume you’re talking about the fact that you have to be connected via Battle.net, it’s a GAAS (game as a servic), whether you agree or not is not the issue, it’s a fact, it’s a GAAS, so you have to be connected to servers to play.

  1. If the game where off line like diablo 3 was on console it wouldnt matter security wise. Its not as if d4 needs online connectivity but that is another debate to some extent.

Like my above response, Diablo 4 requires online connectivity because it is a GAAS, once again whether you like it or not, is not the issue.

Have you played Diablo 4 ? It is possible to trade gold and items.

I think there is a misunderstanding between what the product is and what you expect from it. And that’s where the technical solutions between the console and the PC to have a playable GAAS in local multiplayer differ.

Couch coop exists on console where it is GAAS too, that term or the fact blizzard have gone that route doesnt preclude couch coop on pc.

My points in regard of security issues clearly stand and some of them assume the exact environment the game is currently in.

Blizzard have so far given a weak argument about the console having a feature which they say the pc doesnt but havent discussed the obvious alternatives i.e. fix the issue or just have one account logged in with two chars on the one account.

As to trading I cant fire up the game to check right now as the beta isnt live, clearly there is no auction house and im right there.

Perhaps it was just bad luck but when i tried to pass items on they were all bound and it wouldnt let me.

Personally I dont understand why they would allow any trading of gold/items as its just opening up the can of abuse problems… couch coop or not

Im pretty sure I have read that couch coop will be added to pc aswell and is just not available in beta.
Not 100% sure though.

Would love to see the source for that if you can find it.

Searched for it and seems like false memory from my side.
They said its probably not impossible but it was not planned for pc and there are a lot of technical issues to inplement it on PC.

So sounds like a “maybe sometime, but not planned yet”

Pity. Ill have to go check my xbox games which are couch coop and play anywhere as im pretty sure you can log on to two accounts with a pc there.

Ive couched coop The Ascent and Lego Starwars Skywalker Saga on PC, but am struggling to remember the login process for player #2 and if it was a guest or not. Guest would be fine of course for me.

It’s sad…

I agree, strange that devs think that PC can’t be hooked up to a big tv like consoles. It was in the explanation on why it wasn’t added on PC.
Here’s breaking news for you: it can!
Another thing was 2 battle.net accounts…? Why can’t it be just 1 account with extra characters played by a different person? Or does PS/XB requires you to buy an extra copy to play local co-op?
Thanks for at least implementing controller support on PC!

I agree.

I’m also seeing that the console co-op is only 2 player, not 4.

It could be that a 4-player co-op mode is enabled as a temporary, container styled state, where an additional “companion” character is brought in underneath the active account as an almost virtual account with it’s own unique profile to permanently store gear, stats, etc.

@Blizzard, please hear me out. Me, my partner, and her daughter, have all started playing Diablo Immortal, and while this situation is only possible currently because it’s Free to Play and low system resource usage (my partner plays on her phone, her daughter on an old tablet, me on my gaming PC), we won’t be able to do this for Diablo 4. I’d also like to have all three of us play on my Twitch stream.

I’m already dismayed we can’t do it for Diablo 3 on PC, despite me having fond memories as a teenager playing with friends on console when they would come over.

It’s not feasible right now for me to build two more computers, or buy the game three times. Finances are tight and things don’t look to be getting better.

I know if you really wanted to you could build the feature into the game. It’s possible on console, and we see modders in the community do crazy things all the time with games on PC (co-op on Skyrim for example).

Diablo IV on PC would be even better with local co-op. It’s available on consoles, so why not on PC? Let’s gather friends, defeat demons together, and create unforgettable gaming moments. Please consider adding this feature.

Thanks!

Yeah it’s really disappointing. Although it might not be common, I enjoy playing these games with my friends when they visit. Local co-op is some of the best fun you can have gaming and I hope they add it in soon. Especially frustrating when they’ve already developed it for console.

For me personally I’d like to be able to play characters from my own account as my friends don’t own the game. If this is possible then some additional slots would be needed to allow me to have one of each class and my friends a character each.

Battlenet is implemented differently on PC, it is a more invasive DRM and due to its nature it is not possible to log in on 2 accounts simultaneously.

On ps5, I just type in my email and pass and I am on. You can even assign battlenet to temporary profiles on ps5.

They have stated it will not be coming to PC.
