Why name the game Diablo?

Well then, the game seems perfect now, does it ? Nothing wrong, nothing missing. Can’t wait to pay for the privilege of fighting diablo in a diablo game

Diablo 4 means “Diablo Universe” - not necessarily the Diablo Character Villain in person … they are different things.

As advertised:

“Seeking refuge from the eternal conflict between the High Heavens and the Burning Hells, Inarius and Lilith formed Sanctuary and gave life to the Nephalem with the stolen Worldstone. Fearing for the destruction of her hybrid offspring, Lilith led a violent, protective act to protect the Nephalem; ultimately leading Inarius to turn his back on her, banishing her to the abyss, becoming enemies henceforth. Lilith’s return ushers in an age of darkness and misery. What fate awaits?”

Very clear imho - peddling “where is Diablo” line is just complete Trolling.

FIFA Manager has no ball!

This is kind of a far-fetched argument and I think you know this as well mate :)) Although I would love a Diablo Manager game now that i think about it

Because it’s catchier and more recognizable than calling it Goatman Marauder 4?

That sounds not bad … I can get to RP as a Goatman!

The whole story was clearly leading to the point that we will fight all three greater evils in D4 at some point. Two expansions are already in development and after the end of D4 campaign I would guess we will encounter Baal, than Diablo and in the end with a “long time no see” moment with the horadrim girl (im bad with names lel) we will fight Mephisto to close the circle connecting the start of D4 with Lillith with her Father beeing the big final.

I would also bet we will see Tyrael again and maybe visit heaven again. But first I would like to see more hell-locations as addition to the open world.

The name Diablo was based on Mount Diablo, which was where David Brevik lived when he conceived the game idea. its not named after the boss particularly.

Diablo was originally not supposed to be in Diablo 3, there was a change of game director at the 11th hour of the games production where they made an executive decision and added Diablo in the 4th act.

Diablo is more about the “Diablo franchise universe” at this point ie. sanctuary and the storytelling of the eternal conflict between the heavens and hell than it is on a single prime evil. it’s come a long way, and more than the original studio could have expected since the first game when the name was chosen.

Exactly, came here to clarify this point myself. Quite a few newcomers keep making this same silly mistake.

Brevik thought of the name “Diablo” when he lived in Danville, California, which is situated at the base of Mount Diablo. The name appealed to him, though he did not realize that Diablo translates as “devil” in Spanish until much later.

The game is called Diablo, the character just got to share the same name. :+1:
