As the title says, why not name it World of Tanks or FIFA? Since it has about as much to do with those games as it has to do with Diablo. Diablo does not even make an appearance in a game that is using his name. Who was the end game boss? Oh wait, it’s the daughter of some dude we killed earlier. We killed the Prime Evils, we dispatched the Lesser Evils, but somehow this girl boss demon is somehow a challenge. She ain’t even a Lesser Evil, so by lore power standards , we are fighting someone who is even weaker than Andariel. Andariel. A basic d2 act 1 boss. Who are we fighting next in Diablo 5? A Fallen Shaman? And if anyone’s retort is that Diablo will come in a future dlc or whatever, i again direct you to my FIFA comparison and it’s like saying you can play FIFA now, but the ball will be added to the game at a later date. Why would you even need the ball?
Yeah, we did, the character we play here, did not. This character starts as nobody and beating Lilith, the creator of Sanctuary, Queen of Succubi, daughter of “some dude” who happens to be the Prime Evil Mephisto, is a big deal for that character. And if you finished the game, you should probably know what’s coming next. We never killed the Prime Evils, because the Prime Evils can’t really be killed and I don’t know how much foreshadowing you need, to realise they are coming back :D. That’s probably what the expansions they are preparing will be about. The story of D4 did not conclude in the base game.
Well if you paid attention to the story, you would know that the prime evils are currently reforming. They were all in the black soulstone that michael destroyed in reaper of souls.
There currently is just simply no reasonable way of pushing him into the basegame story. Instead we explored parts of the wider diablo-universe, whats the big deal? We’re still in the same world and we are still slaughtering demons.
See my FIFA argument earlier. All you guys are saying, as I have predicted from the start, is that we will get the ball at a later date. Sure, let’s play fifa without a ball, and wait for the ball DLC that will come out a year later. It’s not like people buy fifa for football

& as you have failed to understand from the beginning, The game is set in the Diablo Universe. It doesn’t need to have The Big Man himself in it from the start.
We didn’t kill them, they were imprisoned in the Black Soulstone & then released when it was destroyed.
The story in Diablo 4 has explained that the Lords of Hell are weak & are reforming after the events in Diablo 3.
Rather than just saying “Oh yeah, Diablo’s back go kill him again”, Blizzard have decided to explore the Diablo Universe further.
Ok , i get this. But again, FIFA is set in the football universe, just as diablo is in the diablo universe. Would you play and pay for it if you did not get the ball? Just because you MIGHT get the ball later? For another drop of cash ? Are you really defending this practice mate?

I liked the story as Diablo games tend to nail the story

They keep telling us it’s a live service game so it might not be an expansion but with every season they add a bit more story per season giving us the primes

I hope you are right. But , I would guess that you , as well as me, have played blizzard games before. And let’s be honest, they will milk this for all they can. They will not give this to us for free. My only real hope right now is that we dont get 3 dlcs , one for each prime evil, all of em for 40$ a piece. The only thing in my mind that goes against this fear, is that they will just abandon the game after 1 dlc when the player numbers drop significantly. As they always do…

They are going to milk this game for at least 10 years, in like 4 years we will face Diablo again. The game is awesome (massively flawed and 18 months away from being fixed) but great.
The villian we face being the hot mama lilith isn’t a problem, the story in D4 beats story of previous Diablo games even if it is a bit stereotypically modern in less flattering ways.
At this point, Diablo is as much a name of the series of games as the name of a big baddie in the game universe. Diablo 4 is simply the 4th game in the series that started with the game Diablo. Would you be as excited to get it if it was called “Lilith” or “Adventures in Sanctuary”?
I’m not even disappointed that Diablo didn’t make an appearance (yet). I’m glad that Blizzard was able to take the story in new directions which don’t revolve around killing one big evil demon after another, and I think it’s a huge improvement.
Thank you to all who answered. Now I understand the error of my ways. Diablo 4 is a perfect game, with no flaws whatsoever. The level of meticulous detail that went into the game is staggering. Absolutely the best piece of software, not only a game, that came out on any medium. Nothing is bad with it, and the fact that I had THE GALL to want Diablo to make an appearance in a series that is named after him makes me embarrassed. Now I understand guys. Why would I even care if Diablo is in a Diablo game? The developers know better.
I think girl that with Mephisto now, will summon Diablo in one of the addon.
