About mercenaries, what´s your opinion?

I also don’t see why you would do that unless you want to speed up your collection of Mercenaries. I guess the welcome bundle is decently priced.

It’s not like you lack some key legendaries without which you can’t compete, and there isn’t anything pressuring you into that, seeing how you can just play PVE and unlock everything through casual play.

The concept is good but lacks polish and maybe needs more depth (some Merc abilities do not do enough and should be changed e.g. Valyrian Wrynn). I think with continued development it could be a great mode. Some issues/points:

  • There is no clear way to earn gold to buy Mercenaries packs or unlock modes.

  • PVE mode needs more enemy and path variation.

  • PVE Heroic needs better rewards (even if it is just more of the same coins).

  • Boards look dull and if the development time was not available for this, Blizzard should have used the board art from the main Hearthstone game which is great.

  • Merc card size in games needs have a scaling option for PC, everything ends up far too big and it is obvious it has been designed for mobile platforms first.

  • Merc balance is critical to PVP to ensure there is team composition variation. There is definite danger of seeing 1 comp every game in PVP.

  • When a Merc hits 30 we should not have to then exit the mode, open achievements to collect the item reward- it could just come in the mailbox which is currently not being used.

Mercenary mode lacks content. There isn’t much to do but to repeat the same few fights over and over again. Please add some variety, having certain coins only drop from exactly one bounty is very boring. The bounties themselves are very boring as well, since you fight against the same few opponents again and again. I don’t even check their abilities anymore, since they don’t matter much anyways.
Also a lot of characters aren’t viable because of lacking synergies. E.g. there are exactly 2 dragons. That’s it. That means you absolutely need to have Brightwing in order to complete some of Alextrasza’s quests, which is horrible design.
The biggest disappointment for me were the packs. So far I opened around 20 packs from quests, etc. and the rewards were horrible, absolutely not worth it. Low amount of coins and worthless portraits. I will not buy a single one, not even for gold.

  • You need coins to upgrade your skills.
  • Coins are earnt in seperate packs using same gold.
  • There is no way to earn gold using Mercenaries-mode.

Conclusion: you can not upgrade your skills needed in this mode through playing this mode. The mode is unplayable

Sooo, the first point is actually the only correct one.
You earn points for the reward track with every battle, so you earn gold in mercenaries.
But you don’t need any gold besides 900 for the buildings, since you can get all the coins through playing. You even get packs from quests. There are F2P players who already have all characters, including the pre-order ones.
I am still missing 10 legendaries, but I have my main party fully upgraded, all skills and equipment and I have bought zero packs. They’re just rare ones, like Cariel and Bru’kan, but it is possible with legendaries, too. You just need to grind more and do the quests. You do know you get hundreds of coins and packs from the individual questlines!? And that you get 5 packs for beating Ragnaros!? Which can be done with the starter heroes.

You’ve missed my point but that’s okay.

Oh no, I got your point: you just wanted to whine.
My reply wasn’t meant for you, but for people who actually care.

The point of the post is to complain about the gamemode in an effort to make it better. Yet I’m faced with a biblical character whiteknighting horrible game design.

I want to like Mercenaries, but you don’t complete daily/weekly quests with Mercenaries. You won’t get gold unless you’re sat at home playing Mercenaries all day~ and with the little gold you get, you can’t sufficiently get enough packs to keep your skills updated. That’s the point.

Good night, “Lilith”

Yeah but the point is you don’t need gold to update your skills in mercenaries as you can earn the coins through playing. If you couldn’t see which coins you get from each bounty you’d have a point, but you can.

puts tin hat on but it is distracting us from playing ranking which means we’ll open less free packs from the next expansion as we’d have earned less gold (or this one if you’re not saving yet).

If you’d checked the post directly above yours you would have seen a lot of criticism of the game mode. By me. You on the other hand flatout lied instead of giving constructive critique. That helps exactly no one. Instead of insinuating maliciousness on your part I understood it as simply whining. I may have been wrong. My apologies.
And the point is, just to reiterate, that packs do preciously little to upgrade your merc, they are mostly to acquire them and portraits.
You need to do quests to upgrade your mercs! Which you get new every day. One could even go so far as to call them “daily quests”, if so inclined, but since you can get more quests by playing I would not call them that.

Sidenote: The Lillith myth predates the bible by a lot and could be called apocryphical at best. I try to do justice to her more demonic origins.

My current opinion is. There’s a SHOCKING lack of Mercenaries. Like, i had expected at least 3 times the amount so you could enjoy yourself for a while thinking of various combo’s that would work well. Atm, there’s not many … because there’s just not alot there yet. Its super bare bones.

That and getting “coins” as rewards. (might aswell get a pat on the head). How about some actual rewards … like neutral beast cards … or gold … or interesting temporary equipment maybe? … nope … coins … thanks for the pat on the head.

It’s not the worst rpg game I’ve ever played. But if I wanted to play a Pokemonesqe RPG I’d just go play Pokemon, at least Pokemon doesn’t have microtransactions in it and frankly has waaaaaaayyyyy more depth.

PvP feels pointless.
Waiting times are long, you get better rewards faster by just doing bounties.
Rewards are lackluster. Not only is it a complete waste of time with ZERO reward if you loose, but you are complete at the mercy of the matchmaker and it feels like you don’t really have much control because you have almost zero idea about what you will be facing.
I tried PvP 3 times now. 1 win and 2 losses. I cannot imagine I would bother with PvP again in the future as things are now.

will this meta ever get betta??? will it??

The matchmaking in Mercenaries is actually nice. It always pits you against opponents of equal power level while making sure, that you are not facing a party of all-counters.

And if it doesn’t find an opponent, it creates an AI bot that fits the algorithm.

This is an awesome mode, but after the recent patch the selection of the opponent has become disgusting, it is not balanced. And another point is the meta. Cards such as Cirne, Diablo and Vol’jin destroy the game, they are the most unpleasant to play against.
I will wait for nerfs and a more balanced selection of players:)

Its “Mehrcenaries”… its juts meh… another lame mode, its playable to a certain point but nothing attractive in it. That’s what happens when you get greedy, want to sell more, want to get to kids and not all ages and still do it wrong.

I like the farm and the game, but plzplzplz make achievements reachable from the village, something like the monuments in wow garrison back in the days. It’s really annoying you have to get out of the mode, get to the overview, get to achievements, look up where the lvl 30 reward hangs out and all the way back.

A good start but needs a lot more depth. I like the concept, I love progressing RPG style games, I have no interest in the PVP side of things.

Very worried about the packs giving coins that cannot be used, so if you were to spend money some of the contents are entirely unusable (Legal?). opened a pack yesterday, only one of the tokens out of 5 could be used as the others were for maxed minions.
Also, cosmetics in packs, I worry about the precedent this sets going forward.
Between these two things I wont be spending any money on the mode, I respect some people like cosmetics however.

Fixing these major issues would go a long way to helping me have more interest. Very concerned about the pending ‘mysterious stranger’ changes, its the only way to get quests outside of daily’s and character items are locked behind these, its already super slow to farm them, I just have a gut feeling ‘changes’ means far more nerfs.
