I get very annoyed at playing against aggro demon hunters because there seems to be very little counter play to the deck unless you play a deck that inherently counters it e.g warrior.
The deck simply outputs too much damage and it is probably the most cancerous deck that has ever existed in Hearthstone in my opinion.
My rank on average is 200 - 500 legend and I think the problem with the deck is the amount of draw it has.
Usually lack of draw balances aggro decks since they run out of cards and therefore cannot output anymore damage but this is not the case with aggro demon hunter because of Stiltstepper, Skull of Gul’dan and Voracious reader.
So I think these cards should be nerfed for Stiltstepper damage should be reduced from 4 to 3/2, drawing 1 card is fine but to then have 4 damage added and a 4/1 body is too much value for a single card.
Voracious reader’s passive can’t really be changed since it would kill it as a card so I think a change in stats from 1/3 to either 1/2 or 1/1, if this card gets maximum value it is 2 mana, draw 3 cards and summon a 1/3 minion, again too much value for a single card.
The biggest issue I have is with Skull of Gul’dan which is only made better with the addition of Lorekeeper Pokelt in the deck. This card needs another nerf, the problem with it is the cost reduction that it has. Normally when a deck plays a card that draws e.g arcane intellect, battle rage and overflow, they lose tempo and generally become slightly weaker on board due to that. But obviously this is not the case with Skull of Gul’dan which reduces the cost of cards by 3, and this when comboed with lorekeeper pokelt, altruis and general low cost cards means that Demon hunters have an absolutely disgusting way to both clear boards and deal damage.
So my proposed nerfs are either too decrease the cost reduction from 3 to 1 or make the card 8 mana, I really think this card is busted.
So the obvious counterpoint is that these draw cards all have activation conditions (play the card, hand size and outcast) but the conditions are very easy to activate and in my opinion from playing since beta, this is my most hated deck yet.
manz never played aggro demon hunter before but manz gonna start now. manz need to reach legend and manz gotta do it anyway manz can.
Not even close to undertaker hunter, pirate warrior and…er demon hunter on release in terms of toxicity but I do agree that it’s a tad too strong and should probably be reigned in a bit, just like all those other examples were pretty sharpish.
Tempo mage is more toxic.
I would say that undertaker hunter and pirate warrior were only so strong because of the patch that they were in, not many decks had effective removal back then. If these decks were played nowadays they wouldn’t be that strong and I believe they would face the problem of not being able to draw enough cards. Whereas with Aggro Demon Hunter this seems like an archetype which may define Hearthstone for the foreseeable future.
I can’t really talk about Demon Hunter on release since I only played about 3 games against it and decided not to play until it got nerfed so maybe it was more toxic but I didn’t play enough to find out.
It was way worse and a ridiculous amount of people were playing it as it was shiny and new.
Undertaker hunter is the highest wr deck of all time. It was literally have removal on turn 1 or you lose as it would grow out of range of removal or require expensive removal which is too much of a tempo lose against a hunter. Plus the deck had plenty of draw from mad scientist and the buzzard + unleash combo, as well as added value from web spinner.
Pirate warrior was luckily only at full strength for a very short amount of time before that 1 drop pirate got nerfed out of play. It didn’t care if it ran out if cards because 90% of the deck went face and had no intention of going past turn 7 with arcanite reaper being too slow for some versions.
Full strength undertaker hunter would 100% still be relevant. I think pirate warrior would but maybe just because it would pray on demon hunters, ironically.
A bit late reply maybe, but I have the need to give my two cents on this. Demon hunter has been a problem since release. So many nerfs at this point, and still it’s too OP. Yes, card draw and general value is part of the issue in my opinion. I agree with the hunter flavor being super aggro yet running out of steam. Every class used to have their distinct flavor, some favoring control and others aggro or even both. Demon hunter on the other hand has everything. Card draw, value, burst damage, board clears, silences, tempo slow cards (2 less mana), can ignore taunt. The one cost spells in particular with outcast is just…wtf. Silence and draw? The blade dance…board clear AND burst damage…for 3 mana that used to be 2!!! The il’gynoth combo decks are the worst, because DH (having everything) can constantly draw and stabilize.
This is my problem with DH. The flavor not clear…besides having frustatingly many counters and win conditions.
This deck is the deck I lose to the most. I tend to play a lot of control decks so they have lots of time to build the combo. Thankfully I don’t run into many of them as I think they are weak to aggro which keeps them in check.
