Having to now pay to play Battlegrounds in a complete rip off. Teasing us with a new mode for months with no hint that it was going to become a paid mode was just wrong. I already spend enough of my hard earned money on this game. You might as well remove that button as far as i am concerned, I will never be clicking on it again.
What a ripoff.
Blizzard is becoming as bad as though companies that make you pay for everything, including breathing.
I am highly disappointed… and disgusted actually.

well last expansion you had to pay 3000 gold for those perks, now you have to pay 2500 gold.
even though the 3000 gold thing was a MUCH better deal, you still don’t need to pay any money, either for playing the thing, nor for getting the perks.

Agreed. This is frankly disgusting for what is a minigame. Certainly not going to be buying any packs or paying the BG fee they can screw themselves.
The problem is that you didn’t HAVE to pay that 3000 to get it. I got my old perks by doing arena runs on the side, and it was good - the perks aside from the extra hero choice didn’t matter that much, and the progression was still satisfying and encouraging to mix it up with other modes like this.
But now you HAVE to either open your wallet or grind quests every day without being able to play arena on the side to ba able save the gold. Sure 3000 isn’t that big a deal to those who play all the time, but for those of us who liked to casually play a game or two per day without having to worry about deck builds or gold grinding for arena tickets, this is a massive spit in the face for us with the perks now being even more mandatory to have fair games and not be forced to play sucky heroes and have updates withheld from us. It is absolutely disgusting.

I literally clear the dailies and get 8000 gold per expansion with no extra grinding.
I did the math and if you clear the dailies once a week, you can even roll them to make it so you can do all 3 in 3 games and let 4 dailies expire, you need to average 6 BG a week if you lose all 3 of those games.
What a massive grind, 15 minutes a week if you play very little of the mode you’re angry about not being able to “play”.
As someone who splits between constructed and BG it’s a little annoying but I’m happy enough playing with the 2 free options per game.
I have enough of this game.

I agree with you. it’s much worse for players now. all my post was meant to do however, was to tell OP that you don’t have to pay money, either for playing the mode, nor for the perks. nothing more than that.
This is a pointless argument though. Achieving the perks has become dramatically harder and less valuable for the player. A man with no legs may still be able to travel 10 miles to the water well but he is severely disadvantaged compared to when he had legs.
I get that you want to want to pay their employees in sunshine and rainbows and for the servers to run on dreams but that’s not the real world.
I already said I won’t pay it, just that it’s still unbelievable easy to get for free if all you want to do is play battle grounds, which it is.
The business model of this game is highly unethical and plainly wrong. Sooner than later a much fairer model will raise promoted by a big player (Google?) and FFTP (Fake-free-to-play) will become extinct.
They should have never lured people in by creating the FTP illusion. That is their wrong doing and that is what eventually will determine its downfall.
what is your definition of “free to play” and would you tolerate different definitions?

I play for free. I did all the quests and bought it for coins in like 2-3 weeks. Play the game and quit whining.
There are many problem in battlegrounds. Just remove shield and posion, it is more unfair for everyone. It is COMPLETETLY disaster when you see all of shield and posion, it shouldt happen in battlegrounds. IF you dont get cards you need, you are DONE! Several times I did refresh cards 10 TIMES with no a single I need.
If I had to decide, I would remove battlegrounds immediately. It is WORST you have done in Hearthstone ever. I am not kidding! Congratulations, blizzard!
