I updated a couple of days ago and since the game playin battle mode has changed. It’sfaster during battle phase, making it very unclear exactly what’s going on and considerably less enjoyable.I’d understand quickening the selection time but not the actual battle.Or do I have an error?

I think that it’s rather a feature than an error because depending on the performance of your device, recruit phases in the late game used to be very short which was due to the extremely slow animations during combat phase.
well its a poor feature, as it looks awful. Will certainly put me off playing on iPad

Pretty much this. Though, it is happening a bit more often than it should at the moment so it is being looked into. One of our developers posted on our US forums with more information. ^^
Why not shorten selection time?
The battle phase is when you are figuring out your strengths and weaknesses.
It’s the essence of the game. Sometimes you have no idea what’s happened. Really sucked the joy out Of this mode.
because this is what used to happen due to different performance of different devices. if your phone wasn’t as fast as your opponent’s, your animations would take longer to play out and you had less time in the recruit / selection phase.
this made it hard to play the game because sometimes you could hardly do anything you wanted to do because there wasn’t enough time.
obviously this is not an issue for you, but it used to be for others.
