So I’ve been having great success against token druids using Paladins. I run
pyro, equality, shrink ray and consecration. If i go second, i sometimes use the coin+pyro combo to get rid of wisps and save consecration to get rid of mass treants. So unless they get an exceptional hand, I win pretty hard cuz druids cant deal with huge magnetic minions. What about you guys? Having any success against this deck?
Controll Warrior.
So far x/2
Both times very mediocre draw
Not sure i’ve lost to them yet with my handlock. My original version had so much healing/taunts/board clears that it was a bit of a slaughter. I have changed the deck a bit, cutting back on the healing to try and do something against control warrior’s but so far they still body me, but token Druid hasn’t been a problem.
I just do it with my version of druid. They think they’re in a mirror until it’s too late.
Also Warrior - I am trying the Dragon version ATM, make sure to check out the “Wings of War” recipe, it’s awesome. I’m also playing mech hunter, a deck that’s very weak against token druid, so I added Unleash the Hounds again to mitigate their threat, and occasionally it works. I’m playing around with Priest, too. However, Mass Dispel removes the buffs but not the minions, so you’re still dead if you have to play it on T4 or 5 and cannot remove them on the same turn, and Mass Hysteria leaves the druid with a board full of Treeants. I am at a point now where I’d say Priest cannot win a single game against a token Druid who does not make several severe mistakes.
I lost and won a few games with Khadgar Mage and Murloc Shaman, entirely depending on starting hand and early draws.
That’s about it, did not try much more during the first week.
I have tried with different versions of Khadgar Mage against Token Druid without luck. I find Mage OK against everything else but Token druid.
Whispering Woods on turn 3 or 4 is difficult to handle without very lucky card draws. I have dropped several ranks because of this.
Today I crafted a budget Token Druid deck and have won all the games with it so far.
It is so much easier to play than Mage.
You should only play big mage if you’re facing a lot of warriors. That deck is built to beat warriors (>80% winrate vs them), not much anything else.
The variants teched to beat druids lose to all rogues and hunters. And there are way more rogues on ladder than druids. So best stay with the anti-warrior variant and only play it when there are many warriors.
Zoolock is the simplest fastest and most effective answer to druids.
Or just play rogue who is good overall (but not great against anything).
The best way to play big mage vs druid is to look for early highroll. The alternative is to have good curve on the draw minions and trade them in. The only real comeback if you’re behind or druid gets early flood is to get exactly what you need from witchdoctors.
E.g., I had 1 perfect game today:
turn2 spectre (3 cards drawn) -> t3 giant -> t4 coin-kadghar-conjurer’s (= 2 taunt + 2 giants) -> opponent concede
I kept kadghar, conjurer’s, book and coin in starting hand (looking for a highroll); I drew the giant from book.
P.S. Rogues, hunters and zoolocks are in general much harder matchups for big mage than druid.
I do not play Big Mage but have build a version of Summoner Mage. It consistently destroys Warriors, Rogues, Hunters, Priests, Paladin and Warlock.
The main problem is Token Druids because they can build a board very quickly. My win rate against Shaman Murlocs also bad, below 50 %.
I have made a version that can destroy these agro/tempo decks but then I get problem with normal decks.
My goal is not to beat Token Druids. My Goal is to beat EVERYBODY
At the levels between 15 and 20 many decks are agro/tempo decks and the easiest thing is to play Token Druid. Only problem is Mirror matches and Warlock. Mirror matches are always decided on card draw.
Few people are playing Warlock at the moment and I just continue to play Token Druid and a bit of Shaman Murloc. It is boring but better for climbing ladder at my level.
My fav tech against murloc is hungry crab alltough might not fit in every deck.
I play murloc zoo so it usually finds its target but ülaying it against murlocs is ofc the most fun
