A silence card or a card that removes specifically taunt?
What is the best value one to have in a deck?
Depends on the deck/class.
A silence card is always better then removing a taunt only minion since it could be applied in any match up you could face.
In arena when you get offered the black knight ( destroys a taunt minon ) it is a strong pick because of how arena is played with many huge taunt minions and it leaves you with a 4/5 in stats on the board.
In any other game mode you would go for a other silence minion or spell what is possible for your class since it more versatile in any match up.
What? It’s different match-up to match-up. Silence is definitely not always better. Weird example but Priest never* run the 0 mana silence, but always* run removal.
Typically aggro decks will chose silence over removal because it’s cheaper, if the cost was the same, they’d run the removal every time. So with each deck/class/match-up it comes down to whether the extra mana is worth it (if either should be included at all).
He wants to remove a taunt card which only a few cards have this description like the black knight and a cheap silence is almost always better then a black knight.
That there are other cards that could remove any minion is a bit to wide in card suggestion but yeah a plague of death is one of the best.
But some additional info might be needed indeed…

spell mage is excellent against taunts, just fill ur deck with freeze spells & get that new hero power which generates spells.
u just keep on freezing the enemy board every turn they unfreeze & ull win eventually with the power of the random spell hero power. probably…
