BG: Skill-Luck ratios

There are a lot of complaints about Battlegrounds recently, so I have compiled a little science to hopefully make people more positive about the game.

As there is obviously RNG involved there is a clear luck/skill ratio. It is very much Rating dependant. The higher the players rating, the more luck is involved. This may sound strange, even absurd, but the science proves otherwise.

The reason for this is that at higher ratings all the players know the meta builds and therefore know which cards are required. They either get those cards or they don’t. I.e. RNG works for them, or it doesn’t. Think of Leapfrogger build. You either get a Rivendare or you don’t. You either pwn or you get squashed.

Here are the ratios.

Rating: 0 - 3000: 50% skill, 50% luck.
Rating: 3001 - 4999: 25% skill, 75% luck.
Rating: 5000 - 5999: 10% skill, 90% luck.
Rating: 6000+: 5% skill, 95% luck.

Some days you are the whale, some days you are the plankton.

There is the soldi tactics of buying the cards you don’t need but others do.

Past 8k rating that is probably the most important tactic to win. And by win, I mean be in top 4, not necessarily be 1st.

But if you only focus on building your board, then your loss is guaranteed. You need to know how many of which card there are in the pool, and try to reduce it.

I understand what you are saying. In MtG we called it counter drafting. Taking something just to make sure others don’t get it, even though you don’t need it.

Problem is, if a player is lucky then they will get that card, even if there is only one copy left. In Duos it is even worse, because two players are buying cards.

Also, if you are buying cards to prevent others from getting them, then what does your own warband look like?

How many cards must you counter draft if you are facing multiple meta builds? Tough one for sure.

Blizzard needs to adjust drop rates to reduce drops. If a player already has 2 Golden Chargls on turn 10 then something is wrong.

Difficult for the Devs to balance.

Oh the luck was and always will be a factor. But duos… duos you only play with a friend… it is too much to play with randoms

the whole game is luck dependant , no skill involved take my last 3 games , i love playing mechs when it work there really fun to play but my last 3 games in duo’s been at rank 4 on curve if you wanna call it that to find the drone , neither me nor the wife has found in all 3 games until its on the fight that finishes us off ,
