Dark Skies - how does it work?

Ok so I just played Mo’ag Artificer followed by Dark Skies. After playing Dark Skies, I had 7 cards in hand. Dark Skies dealt a total of 12 damage and there were still minions left on board afterwards. Please explain.

Since you had 7 cards in hand after playing Dark Skies, it dealt 8 times 1 damage.
Due to Mo’arg Artificer, the minions took double, so every time they were hit for 1, they took 2. Unless of course they had only 1 left.
I’m 99% sure that Dark Skies does no death processing in between the damage events, so even if Mo’arg Artificer died in the process, all damage events would be doubled.

So my explanation would be that 4 of the 8 damage events went on a minion with 2 or more health; and the other 4 went on a minion with (at that time, possible after earlier Dark Skies damage) had 1 health remaining. That would explain the total damage dealt of 12.

The reason why there were still minions left on the board afterwards is probably that the total health of all minions at the time you cast the spell was more than those 12 points that were taken.

Actually I just looked at the replay again and in fact 16 points of damage were dealt in total, which is the 8 x 2 that one would expect

I thought Dark Skies used the amount of cards in your hand after you cast the spell to calculate the amount of damage instances?

It does.
And that is how often the damage repeats after the first, unconditional one.

“Deal 1 damage to a random minion. Repeat for each card in your hand.”

Oh!

Now I feel dumb.
