Disgusting behaviour after a match

About an hour after a match I noticed a friend request which I accepted thinking a player wanted to add me in good faith. I have deleted the said players name since it is not allowed on the forum. The individual won the match but begrudged me using the ‘I will crush you’ emote several times. Since the emotes exist I presumed this is not against the rules, besides I lost anyway. I’ve been playing Hearthstone for nearly a year and a half and this is the first time I have witnessed such toxic activity via the Hearthstone community :rage:. I think what upsets me the most is the very last sentence as a close family member of mine had this illness. Just because this is the internet people should not hide behind a computer screen and abuse players in this disgusting manner. I have read similar threads from other players that also have been verbally abused. Why should this kind of abuse be allowed to continue and be simply ignored? The level of toxicity such as this should not be tolerated. Players like this need permanently banned. Just for the record I am not a kid, I am a middled aged woman who simply enjoys Hearthy. Anyway I think I need a cup of tea after this.

Toxic people really suck, and it’s bad you can’t get revenge on them, I mean you could if you still have the user name, hope you do

I had this guy, we were playing pubg, 3 as a team, the 4th started spamming stuff in the chat and so on, he got to us somehow and was very mad at us for not following him to certain death, we eliminated 2 teams together and a few solo guys until he came and we had everything we could have wanted, I got to say that guy was quite salty, the last team we killed next to their car, our friend went there to make sure there was no one left while we healed as we were low on hp, the fu**er got to us and shot the car until it exploded, it was already damaged enough so our friend could not get away, he took all he had, even his clothes, maybe he tried to pose at him or something, so I threw a grenade at him, teabagged him good, made him drop all he stole then threw a second grenade and let it explode next to him, who was trying to crawl away from it at this point

I then reported him for griefing and I’m sure he’s gonna get it

When you try to follow a Sheercold story but suddenly this sentence pops up…

But on topic, the usual responses will be coming in ‘I never accept friend requests’, 'emoting is considered impolite’, etc…
The truth is there are plenty of morons playing this game who think they can just say anything. What I do is get their IP-adress and hunt them down.

Go onto the battle net social tab and you can report them, even if they unfriended you.

Personally I find spamming the emotes rude, but I’d never insult anyone over it.

Well, hearthstone is a trash rng moneygrab game … with a community that is, in the most parts, also like trash …

This is sadly a problem with many online games. People think they can say/do whatever they want without being detected and penalised. I have also dealt with toxic players.

What you should do: Report them if they are toxic. If they are very toxic (which I consider this case is), then you should take a screenshot of it and send it to the game developers (not on these forums though). They will not be so tough anymore after getting a heavy ban.

Firstly, I have to point out this sentence. Spamming emotes such as this is often perceived by other players as bad manners. I’m not condoning how your opponent reacted because that is unacceptable, but as you’ve highlighted here he said:

This is generally not appreciated by a lot of players and we see a lot of people complaining on the forums about people spamming emotes as being toxic behaviour so you should be a little careful doing that because it can upset people.

As I said though, his reaction was unacceptable and you should report him for his response as others have suggested

when your team mates are your enemies you give up on morals, he cased us down and murdered our friend in front of us while he was defending us, I wish I could have done more

You need the IP address to find them?
All I need to do is FOLLOW THEIR SCENT.
Easy enough.

Not many people know this, but you can actually report players for what they write you.
And even less people know that you can still do this even after they “unfriend” you (which is what a lot of these toxic people do).

In the battle.net client, go to the Social tab. You’ll see all recent chats there. And you can right-click on any received message to report it.

I don’t know what exactly Blizzard does with these reports but I assume they built the feature with a reason.

Not many people read whole treads either cough post 4 cough

Squelch,
Right click on their avatar and squelch it. You can’t see their emote anymore.

…they were the one emoting.

Thanks all for the replies.

I reported the player before I made this thread. Wrote some additional information to Blizz but I am not sure they will do anything to sort this kind of abuse. I would like to clarify that I am not offended by swear words or being called an idiot. It was the last sentence that prompted me to create this thread as it was simply unwarrented and very disconcerting.

Whilst I appreciate that, I did not mean any malice and viewed it as just a bit of harmless fun in the game. I like the various voice emotes especially from Hagatha. However I can see that these emotes can be annoying to some people. In future I will be more mindful as to when to use the emotes ie. If the player does it first and will certainly scale back on overusage.

That sounds like a crap experience for your team Sheercold. I hope he gets his just deserts.

Yes, this is why you squelch them, so YOU can’t see their emote anymore.
IF you can’t see their emote. You won’t be upset.

wah…so ungrateful…
I gave you a Solution to your problem for you to avoid a lot of stress, and because i don’t cry with you like the others. You don’t thank me?

wah…sad that i wasted my time, what a trash behavior from you.

Lol, their opponent wasn’t emoting, they added them afterward and insulted.

Are you suggesting they squelch themselves?

Not ungrateful, was just hoping you would take the time to read the opening post, thus having not wasting your time making a post that makes no sense.

oh my bad thank you.
So the complainer was the one emoting.
Even more trash behavior…
@Opening post, myself i hate people like you emoting over and over and over and over. This the behavior of a scum.
I am not insulting you. I am talking about the behavior.

maybe you deserve the insult after provoking people, and then come and cry in the forum? …

So you thinking using an emote once or twice during a match warrants such verbal abuse (‘stupid cun.t, die by cancer you criple kid’) from a player? Personally I do not think this is acceptable behaviour and certainly not justified. As a paying customer and long term player of Hearthstone I think I have every right to express my grievances on the forum about this matter. An insult is one thing but wishing someone to die by cancer is an another thing and quite frankly disgusting.

Agree on that one

You can squelch emotes btw.

I were in a similar situation in Rl where i told a guy to shut the f*ck up in my fav pub and thus lovely gentleman took out a blunt weapon and threatened me.

I mean i know the guy and hes a dog who doesnt bite and we both know next time he threatens me i call the police so hes rather passive when im around.

Still people said " but to be honest You shouldnt have told him to shut up" …

Well nobody was defending him tough bit still… the reaction didnt justify itself imo
