I don’t mean this in a “back in my day, a 4 mana 4/5 was an amazing card!” but more of how the game has developed since launch. The powercreep and additional power that cards gain just doesn’t feel right anymore. The amount of highroll to even have a slight shot at beating someone with a similar deck is too high with the amount of variance the game has. I just got back into the game after a few months and lost all of my awareness in the game, but somehow it feels like I’m being pitted against players from platinum with how much goes on and the exact minmaxxing everyone does, not to mention that every class now has answer cards which used to be class flavour, resulting in this weird mish-mash of effects that don’t really bounce off one another.
Not to mention the insane amount of play I see revolving around DK. Playing around someone who can lifesteal for 10 on turn 5 isn’t fun to play against. a 6 mana board clear isn’t fun to play against. A class that revolves around the graveyard and being hugely empowered by it isn’t fun to play against.
I peep a bit into battlegrounds, but even then at a certain point it just turns into “who can chase a meta composition and do 500 apm” which isn’t fun for the average player, like myself.
Some of these points can be pointed out as being wrong, about how fun is “subjective” and that I just “need to get better” or how “it is what it is”, these are just my feelings about the game that used to bring me joy, but sadly its become a cash cow for those with ADD.
So for this I think I’m just going keep to the singleplayer content whenever I just want to have fun, because it is a net positive gamemode and it doesn’t feel rewarding playing ranked, doing multiple matchups and losing every single match because I’m not netdecking and buying premium access to info on my level bracket, which also requires me to buy more packs to make the decks to combat the decks at my rank.
It’s a shame because it used to be a fun game, I started taking longer breaks from HS until I realised I didn’t miss it, I stop by the forums every now and then to check for a pulse, the fact that your post is 6 days old with no comments says it all.
In other news I’ve just been promoted by Blizzard, I’m a trusted poster now, it only took 2 years of inaction on my part for Blizzard to enjoy having me here.
The standard mode, in which the ridiculous OP cards fight, is completely in bad shape. Sometimes we think, how do they design such ridiculous cards. Actually the answer is simple, for them to receive the packages. But they don’t take, people don’t like this game anymore and they quit. The ridiculous designs in this last expension made people say enough is enough.
Yes, unfortunately… There is a total chaos since DK released… that class should not even exist… it will ruin the game together with Priest. Aggro became incredibly fast and strong too… I don’t know how long are this developer team working for Blizzard on this game… but they will kill it soon if they continue like this… They will even kill classic mode soon which was the only mode to avoid the stupid DK and DH classes… More and more ppl will stop playing because of this bad strategy. I really don’t understand why Blizzard have to start optimize every game for kids which needed some brain… They have lost 7 million subscribers when Wrath of the Lich King released and token system showed up in WoW from 11 million… But that was not enough for them to realize they are on a wrong track… Now they want to kill HS as well by this wrong strategy. When I returned to the game about 2 years… I was really enjoying it… but now… the game is full of broken cards… But until I can find a way to defeat most of the meta and improve, I will stay because I can enjoy it. This is the real challange for me.
My friends, their friends, in short, too many people have left this game, deleted it from their computers, and they are right, they have lost more than 13 million players in the past years. They lost another 7 million. I don’t think they even care. They will continue like this. They can finish this game, no problem for them. It’s a strong company after all. Because they know it, they don’t care. If they lose a lot more players, maybe !
They can’t find a worse design team, I’m sure.
Ladder needs a full reset, the problem is every expansion needs to add power creep and after so many years, the cards are just too powerful. They need to start again, from season 1 with a fresh expansion using only those cards and classic cards in standard mode. The new cards need to be well thought out and balanced with the classic cards.
Good idea, but they will never do that… because they have to remove DK from the game to make it balanced… and take away all the thief cards of Priest… They will never do that because these classes for kids… They need kid’s money… because they are stupid enough to pay for this…
Thanks but I was just honest. It is really sad how unbalanced the game became with all the DK’s endless healing and AOE destroy circus… Priest are always too powerful in every meta and this starts to make me mad really… Also the aggro became too strong since rotation. And now they even want to close the only game mode where We could escape from all of these crap… The game starts to be really unfun… This is not entertaning anymore, this is suffering…
They have come to this point over the years, without caring about any criticism. I’ve always been critical. Imbalance and OP cards. This was the last point. 2nd time bravo for such a nice criticism. Have a nice day GoodDaytoDie.
What ever lover boy toys spamers of the game tell you. The hearthstone game is dead. Battlegrounds are my favorite now. I have the cards of every deck that’s played, but don’t bother to play anymore. Toxic toxic toxic. Let them play alone together to see what will happen
Same here. Even though I have only 2 heroes to choose from, and as such, will be at a disadvantage versus players who pay for the Tavern Pass: I enjoy it because there is a lot more creativity involved. BG is - to me - the mode with the most potential.
I really wonder why the dev team isn’t able to come up with a solution to the problems that many bloggers and streamers have pointed out so many times: that new/casual gamers don’t feel a rewarding experience, and that regular players feel no creative challenges.
The merger with Activision (in 2008 - time flies…) has also gradually hollowed out the creativity that was once part and parcel of Blizzard. All its games have become cash cows first, and innovative second: more often than not, new products seem rushed onto the market before decent playtesting. What happened to TWIST in the past few days reminds me of the botched WCIII Reforged disaster: so much hype, such great ideas - and such a complete lack of delivery.
I think everyone can have fun in game. All depends on the person. If you have some proposal - go ahead. Or just try change your gamestyle. You know people can say they are boring doing any thing. I think they say that they are boring just when they dont know what to do. If you have idea how to change game to better say it. But I think no sence to say that the game is boring.
Twist is actually fun, and I’m eagerly awaiting what the August season will bring.
In a very memorable recent game against Warrior, I managed to complete Warrior’s Questline with Rogue which I got through Mixtape and almost beat him.
We fought until fatigue. The only reason he won is because Ml’da’s shard wouldn’t spawn a minion due to a bug.
A bit late to the party, but I think that BGs keeps the good old HS alive. My friends and I still play HS for quests, to get the XP rewards / gold.
I played this game since 2014 (not since the beta though). All I can say is that has got way more better for free to play folks / low spenders like me . EG if you don’t want to spend much money, buying the tavern pass is an incredible value if you play it a lot.
Also, one could say that the game is also dead because there is no more competition. No more GMs, less events on Twitch.
@ GoodDaytoDie : yes, I agree. I know Blizzard tends to overpower a new thing to encourage people into playing it, but DH is… is… [cant_find_word_error_0x08A].
BG is by far the best part of HS at the moment. Unfortunately, Duos is incredibly unbalanced.
You either high roll or you get squashed. Blizzard needs to sort that out.
I played a game recently where an opponent had 2 Golden Chargl, 1 Golden Pokey and 1 Dakari, and it wasn’t even Turn 10 yet. Their team had no trinkets, hero powers etc that could aid in such a combo. That means that they found 6 Chargl, 3 Pokey and a Dakari in the tavern.
