Hall of Fame math (i.e. what should you craft)

So when it comes to what you should do it depends in what you already have and what you want to get, be it as much dust as possible or some free cards.

Specific math: (Profit = crafting the card, when you don’t already have it)

Commons (Naturalize/Black Cat):
Profit per regular card: 5 dust
Profit per golden card: 50 dust
Cost to upgrade from regular to golden: 35 dust (360 dust saving)
Extra dust made by crafting a golden copy of a card you have a regular copy of: 10*

Rares (Doomguard/Devine Favour/Merkspark Eel):
Profit per regular card: 20 dust
Profit per golden card: 100 dust
Cost to upgrade from regular to golden: 80 dust (700 dust saving)
Extra dust made by crafting a golden copy of a card you have a regular copy of: 0

Epics (GloomStag/GlitterMoth):
Profit per regular card: 100 dust
Profit per golden card: 400 dust
Cost to upgrade from regular to golden: 300 dust (1200 dust saving)
Extra dust made by crafting a golden copy of a card you have a regular copy of: 0

Genn/Baku:
Profit per regular card: 400 dust
Profit per golden card: 1600 dust
Cost to upgrade from regular to golden: 1200 dust (1600 dust saving)
Extra dust made by crafting a golden copy of a card you have a regular copy of: 0

TL:DR - If all you care about is dust, by the time rotation happens in your collection you want Genn/Baku, 2 X GloomStag/GlitterMoth/Doomguard/Devine Favour/Merkspark Eel (any combination of 2 regular, 1 regular + 1 golden, 2 golden - makes no difference) and 2 X Golden Naturlize/Black Cat.

If you don’t have any of those 16 cards, then craft the golden copies.

So for example:
I currently own:
Genn/Baku
1 golden naturalize, 7 regular
6 Black Cat
8 Doomguard
5 Devine Favour
6 Merkspark Eel
1 Glitter Moth
0 Gloom Stag

I plan to craft 1 golden glitter moth and 2 golden gloom stag as they are essentially free. If I was going to DE all the cards after they leave standard. I would also craft 1 golden naturalize and 2 golden black cat for an extra 30 dust, but because I plan to keep them, I wont pay the 35 dust a card to upgrade.

So the total dust I’ll get will be: 3200 + 440 + 80 + 200 + 200 + 200 + 2000 + 3200 = 9520, having spend 4800 on the 3 golden epics (i.e. if I didn’t craft them I’d get 4720 dust, so I might as well get the free golden cards).

*commons have a unique property where the dust value for DE a golden is more that it costs to craft a regular, which is why you can make 10 extra dust per card.

Frist of all thank you for the Work

So do i get it right?

I got

Baku
Gen
2 Gloomstag
1 Glittermothg and everything else

Does it make sense to craft anything MORE thatn i actually got?

like ill get that glittermoth for sure  but does it make sense to get the golden gloomstags as well so i get the dust from the noramlones AND the golden ones?

i guess not because that would be highly abusable but still is that a thing?

thank you :doughnut:

Nope, you want 1 Golden Glitter Moth.

Golden copies counterfeit regular copies, so your only get dust from as many will fit in a deck, with golden taking priority.

So if you have 1 golden and 2 regular, you get dust from 1 golden and 1 regular. 2 golden and 2 regular, you get dust from 2 golden.

If you plan to DE them all once they leave standard you can make an extra 10 dust on each Golden Naturalize or Black Cat you craft (up to 2) but if you keep them you’ll actually be down 35 dust per card.

thank you one glittermoth it is

So to be clear, if I don’t have any glittermoths and don’t care for having one, I can now craft a golden one, get 1600 dust refund, and then disenchant it for another 400?

Indeed, 400 per Glitter Moth profit for you (up to 2).

So ideally you’d some how find 3200 dust and then start the new year with 4000 without opening a single pack :grinning:

Edit: I apparently can’t post again in the topic until someone else does so this is a response to the post below.

Yeah most people make that initial mistake (I know I did!). However common cards are an exception. Because the Goldene versions DE for 10 dust more than the regulars take to craft, you can infact make 10 extra dust per card on both Naturalize and Black Cat if you only have regular versions and plan to DE everything.

I agree with Ixnay, but what if I own regular copies and I don’t want to keep them?
I mean, I have a regular Baku what if I shard it and get +400.
Then I craft a golden copy of it: -3200.
Math before rotation = +400-3200= -2800
Then rotation comes and i get 3200+1600 = 4800 (because I don’t want to keep it)
Profit = 4800-2800= 2000 dust

Am I getting this right too? Or there is something else ? It would be good even disenchanting regular rares and epics and crafting golden copies of them too. That’s the scenario I’m in.

Edit: I just realized that If I don’t do anything I Get the same amount of dust.
How dumb am I?
Sorry for bothering ^^

Hi! I have not golden Genn and no Baku at all and have 2 not golden Doomguards! How much dust will I get after rotation if I craft golden Genn, golden Doomguards and golden&not golden Baku? I want to keep golden Baku, Genn and 2 golden doomguards and dust not golden ones after rotation! Do you get dust back only from golden Baku or both from golden and not golden Baku? Ty

You only get dust back from golden versions if you have both.

It will cost you 1200 dust to upgrade your Genn and 80 per Doomguard (It usually costs 2800 and 780 so it is much cheaper, but does cost net dust).

The math behind this is if you currently do nothing, you’ll get 1800 dust, whereas is you craft the golden copies, you’ll only end up with the dust from DE the regular copies, which in this case is 440 (but will have the golden copies).

As for Baku, whichever version you craft is effectively free, so might as well craft the golden copy if you have the dust.

Crafted 2 golden doomguards because I play wild Demonlock! Will craft golden Baku too, not sure if should craft golden Genn xD

Just to make sure, this math is oriented to Standard players who will want to DE the cards once they rotate, so they get the dust from the rotation plus the dust from dissenchanting them.

Wild players will only want to craft their missing cards to have them for free after the rotation, plus the rotation’s free dust from the cards they already own. The rotation will give us the dust value of the golden versions owned, right? So Wild players can consider crafting the golden version of their missing cards since they will also be free.

Am I right?

Yeah, if you ever want golden doomguards it’s now or never and all about Golden Baku. Gona get myself some Gloom stags and a glittermoth as they’re free :grinning:

Gota be really into shiny stuff to craft that Genn

That’s 100% spot on. If you intend to keep cards for wild you should only be looking to craft the cards you’re missing, preferably golden as they’re all free, so you might as well.

You can upgrade regular cards to their golden version for a severely reduced cost if you so wish, but it’s not free to do so.

You only get refunded for the your top two cards. For example if you had 3 black cats and 2 golden black cats you would get dust refund for the 2 golden black cats

From Monday i.e. the point where everyone should have full information following the final monthly rewards (wed tavern brawl gives a pack from new set), if anyone wants a precise “what to do to maximize dust” for there own specific situation, just post which HoF cards you have + how much dust you have and I’ll give a short but direct answer and potentially some advice about dusting a few fringe cards if you’re just short of making way more profit e.g. if you have somewhere in the 3000-3195 dust range and are missing a version of Genn or Baku, it would be crazy to not dust some stuff to craft a golden copy.

p.s. also a quick reminder to have an arena started, before they block it. Assuming they force retire decks (not a guarantee as new system, but it would be consistent with the last few years) then if you have an arena stared, you’ll get the rewards + a ticket for a free arena. So ideally you play up until x-2 but even if you hate arena, its still 2 packs + min 10 dust for 150g, just for drafting 2 arenas and retiring the second…I finally get to wipe the worst draft I’ve ever had that’s been sitting at 0-2 since the last reset lol.

Hello Ixnay - i would be grateful if you could help me out calculating some HoF math
My goal is to maximize dust gain - i don’t want to keep any cards going out of rotation.
Within my collection:
Neutralize: 2 normal, 0 gold
Black Cat: 2 normal, 0 gold
Doomguard: 2 normal, 1 gold
Divine favor: 2 normal, 0 gold
Merkspark Eel: 1 normal, 0 gold
Gloom Stag: 0 normal, 0 gold
Glitter Moth: 0 normal, 0 gold
Genn: 1 normal, 0 gold
Baku: 1 normal, 0 gold
Dust: 10775

Thanks again - you’re awesome!

Wait until tomorrow in case you get something from monthlies (e.g. a golden naturalize etc).

However:

2 Golden Gloom Stags
2 Golden Glitter Moths
1 Golden Merkspark Eel
2 Golden Naturalizes
2 Golden Black Cats

Nice and easy as you have enough dust to craft all of that gaining an extra 1690 dust after you dust them all following your refund :slightly_smiling_face:
