I see. So you could make comparisons, but then you’re only doing exactly that, comparing the stats?
It would be wrong to make further assumptions based on those comparisons?

Not exactly wrong, you can make further assumptions provided you have other data that support it…at the end of the day you can never FULLY conclude something like this with 100% accuracy so assumptions have to be made somewhere…the aim is to minimise the inaccuracy of these assumptions as much as possible by collecting multiple facets of information.

But just looking at A statistic like Pyroblast has a 76% played WR and saying that makes it OP and it must be nerfed is stupid because you’re ignoring other data. In this example, of course Pyroblast has a 76% WR as a card because it is pretty much used as a finisher, so most of the time it’s played it’s being used to win the game and understanding that is key to knowing WHY it has a stupidly high played WR.

Stat comparison is vital in getting to the truth…but it’s a step on a journey…not the result

Yeah, statistical significance and the p-value are still there somewhere in my head, I am aware. But that was kind of the whole thing though, the data aren’t supported by other necessary data you gave as examples.

Yeah I know and I agree, I was just disagreeing with your use of the word ‘invalid’…that suggest they are useless…no data is useless, it just needs to be used correctly

The unfair advantage, at least in my opinion, is that warrior has access to an extremely strong card…and it is, that other classes don’t have access to their own variant of. When I say this I literally mean they have access to a very strong hero card where the other 2 classes that have them only have mediocre power ones and the other 6 don’t have access to any. As a hero card it provides a ridiculous amount of value for a single 7 cost card that can pretty much turn the tide of a match by itself…which was exactly the problem people had with the DK cards. Cards like Jaina, Rexxar and Gul’dan could literally irreversibly turn the tide of battle by themselves. While Dr. Boom isn’t quite at the power levels as those 3, the fact that the other 2 aren’t even close it and the other classes don’t have a hero card can be perceived as an unfair advantage.

While this doesn’t make the data useless it is indeed true to some extent. For example, the stats on HSReplay don’t show the impact playing Dr Boom can have on a game. As I mentioned above it is a card that can single-handedly turn the tide of match. And this is what devs consider when thinking about nerfs, not how much the deck is winning or losing, but how much effect individual cards are having on that win rate.
