How do some of you make decks

And i mean deck you made not the “hey a meta or meme deck i saw online in a post or video”
How do some of you decide on your deck making, my os usually pretty straight forward, i think of a gimmick, shove as many cards as i can in a deck and then add some spells if needed

(Here i just get carried away talking about my decks, skip the rest if you want to)

For example a deck thats doing surprisingly well for me is a priest deck where i just searched “deathrattle” and then shove mass dispells and hysterias + the legendary priest spell and usually it does alright, another example was a deck i called bubbles for a quest which has a bunch of divine shiled related stuff and surprisingly does pretty well, of course ive got some that arent so simple like “trollock” a deck made to mess with opponent and is unlikely to win as its just a fun deck, and before bomb warrior i made a bomb shaman with more focus on goblin bombs

I usually look at certain class cards and think “Hey, this could be good” (can happen with neutrals too) it’s usually rares/epics/commons, rarely a legendary, then I thing of synergy cards, things that could work in my advantage, I often put in some 40 cards (wish I could) then think what works best with the rest and what gets the edge, then I take some 5 games to as high ranked as I can and if I feel the deck is lacking I try to change things up, I had discards aggro warlock, PO otk warlock, freeze burn mage, freeze miracle exodia mage, multiple inner fire decks, buff paladin, buff tempo warrior, multiple token shaman and druid and beast druid decks

Step 1: pick a win condition or gimmick I like.
Step 2: add enablers or synergy.
Step 3: add cards until I have 30 (keeping my curves in mind)
Step 4: realize I made a crappy deck
Step 5: beat friends with the deck and suspect them of letting me win out of pity.

The shortest answer

  1. Figure out what the meta archtype is
  2. Figure out what their strenghts/weaknesses are
  3. Pick a class and countering archtype
  4. 20-30 games to figure out the core
  5. 20-30 games to tweak out optimal cards

example:
right now meta is tempo/heavy greedy controll
You need something to out tempo or out controll
Also something with mass removal for mages/druids

You cant outtempo rogue currently, so try to out controll it

2 decks that work for me
mecha chtun warrior/lock (same deck pretty much, different draw/board clear mechanics)
Controll warr with multiple bounces.

Still meta is shifty.

New autocomplete is bombs, take 3-6 cards you like, click complete deck, and with games you will understand what you need to add / remove. Found some hidden op minions due to this method.

I usually wait until 3-4 weeks into a new meta when it’s a bit more settled, look at the top 2-3 decks and think “what can I do to counter these 3 decks and which class provides me the best options to do so” then try and build a deck around that, once I have ways to counter at least 1-2 of them I see what space I have left and think about how to construct my win condition.

Last meta was easy because the 2 decks that were giving people most problems at the time were wall priest and OTK res priest. Building a dragon priest deck with Twilight Acolytes and Cabal Shadow Priests enabled me to counter wall priest while Psychic Scream enabled me to counter OTK res. The dragons enabled me to build early and gain some value with Firetree Witchdoctor and Twilight Drake as well as some low cost aoe with the Duskbreakers. Add in Alexstraza, DK Anduin and some Shadow Visions and Mindblasts and you’ve got your win condition.

Admittedly, I’m finding it a little more tricky this meta given that trying to find ways to counter the 3 different styles of Bomb Warrior, Token Druid and Tempo Rogue in one deck is proving difficult
