Some days ago I posted an analysis on the value of pre-purchases. One of the points that stood out to me from the discussion, was that I probably underestimated the average number of packs opened.
So if you can be so kind, could you answer this? I’m mostly interested in knowing how many packs you’ll open with coins, or what is your strategy to maximise pack opening when an expansion launches.
Thanks!
The plan is 40, but I know I’ll blow it all anyway.
I got gold for 90 packs and ill open those including the 3 i got from the quests.
So 3 legendaries at worst chase scenario
Gl to everyone
I plan on opening as many as I can get from arena+from the gold I’m left with after I get bored
Approximately 130. Bought the 80 pack pre-purchase and have 8k gold saved up so I’ll buy another 50 and keep 3k as backup. May use the gold to buy a handful more if I’m due a legendary by the end. Got 7k dust for any specific legendaries I want after the deck lottery
I currently have 133 and I have 2k gold saved up.
Mind as well share mine. I’m opening 53 packs with gold + 3 freebies and whatever I get on launch. I have the pre-purchases but I’m more interested in understanding the gold + arena + whatever strategies.
I recall I would open 100+ packs from gold before I left the game a year ago though but my strategy, considering I purchase a lot of packs, was always to gather as much gold as I could for the next expansion.
The 3 from TB, 1 stored in arena and I have 10200 gold. How many I open exactly depends on where my legendaries fall. The way I do my pack openings is: get 10 > hit legendary > top up to 40 > repeat until packs - possible packs is less than 40 > open remaining packs > judgement call on how low on gold I go.
Tl:dr around 100
I have enough gold for 43 packs but im only opening 15 as the rest of the gold im saving for solo adventure.
However i will be buying pack with gold whenever i get the chance up until the solo adventure
I’ve thought of doing something like this but I never grasped on how to maximise this strategy without a painfully boring “buy one open one” at a time so I end up just putting all gold on new packs.
Well as long as your total remaining is more than 40 it’s pretty simple. You just see how many pack you have left when you hit a legendary e.g. 18, then top it up to 40 e.g. get 22 more. It’s only the final few that you even consider about worrying about the 1 at a time scenario. Say you just topped up to 40 and have 500 gold left and your next legendary is only 10 packs deep. If I open the remaining 30 and don’t hit another, I will drip feed them 1 at a time until I do. I think it’s more because you get that nagging voice in your head of “don’t craft x as your guaranteed to get the next legendary soon and it might be that one!”, so I like to be able to ignore that rational asap
Goddammit I just realised I forgot to start an arena run and now sign up is closed
Blow all starting gold on packs, then buy one at a time until I hit the pity timer. I guess I’ll end somewhere between 120 and 130 packs.
Strategy is simple, no meta already formed=>dumb people don’t get net decks to beat me, I get an average of 6-7 as always for the first weeks which is often 10-15 packs for 300-450 gold, normally I’d open 20 packs, I’m not much of a saver when it comes to blizzard gambling, so this is just good value and welcomed bonuses, plus it’s such a nice feeling to get sonething else than 40 dust from those arena packs you literally fought for

Most of the expansions I end up at somewhere between 100 - 120 packs. But that is by the end of the expansion, including the packs I get from Arena.
At the start of recent expansions I typically buy what I can with spare gold.
That used to be between 40 and 60 packs.
But this time I’ve only bought 10 so far. Due to a misunderstanding from my part on the pricing structure of the Rise of Shadows solo content, I had bought too much of that expansion, and then had to burn my entire gold reserve to get access to the RoS.
I have saved up a bit now, but I’m holding off on spending more until I know what the prices of the next solo content will be.
