How to get cards and which cards will be wild

Hi all,

I just started HS again after many years. I have some questions where I need your help to find my way back into the game.

  1. Is arena still the most gold efficient way to get cards, as long as you win more than 3 games?

  2. Which cards will go wild next and when does this happen? I dont want to waste my dust on those. E. g. I recently crafted Leeroy.

  3. Why is Leeroy not wild? I thought only cards from 2019 and 2018 are standard in 2019?

  4. Is there no refund when cards go wild? What happens to all the wild cards I collected?

Thank you!

  1. yea, it’s the quickest way because quests are limited. don’t know if 3 is enough as a minimum though.

  2. rotation happens once a year. it’s when the first expansion of a calendar year gets released, which usually happens early april. at that point all cards that were released 2 calendar years ago, rotate out of standard.
so in april 2020 all cards from 2018 rotate out of standard, which will then consist of the 3 expansions from 2019 and the expansion from 2020, plus the basic and classic cards.

  3. leeroy is a classic card. classic cards don’t rotate out on a fixed schedule. sometimes it happens (usually only once a year, in the spring) that the devs decide that a classic card limits their design space too much and they manually rotate the card out of standard and into the so-called hall of fame. this happened to ragnaros firelord and sylvanas for example. when this happens, you are automatically refunded the full dust value of the card, but get to keep it (with the option of disenchanting it for further dust gain).

  4. there is no refund for cards that rotate out of standard on schedule. the wild-only cards that you’ve collected are only playable in wild game modes. you can either play them or disenchant your cards for their regular dust value.

In addition to Khisana …

Average 3 wins is indeed roughly the cut-off point for Arena. This is not documented but based on my personal observation (I recorded all my Arena results and rewards).
However, that only is true if you are looking to get cards from the most recent expansion. If you no longer want those but do still want other expansions, then the guaranteed latest-expansion-pack from any Arena run suddenly loses a lot of value. At that point, the cut-off point is closer to 6 wins average (so that you win on average almost your entire 150 gold back, and still get some dust from the worthless pack).

Above that you start earning gold, which you can then of course convert into free packs. But only very skilled Arena player can consistently get at 6 wins average.
