How would YOU fix Hearthstone?

So there seems to be alot of split feelings about hearthstone, some really against it and some protecting it with everything they have got. But if you had a chance to change to game, some of the modes or just the design process of the developers, how would YOU fix it.

The changes I would have made.

Standard and Wild:

  • Both will get ranked and ranked nozdormu mode for players who want a fast paced game.
  • The MMR will reset each season, so that everybody starts at 0, and you can play noobs to proes at every turn. (I dont remember when I last played someone without a golden portrait).

Card design:
Drawing cards - To draw cards must come with a backside, either it’s super expensive that you almost sacrifice a turn for the draws or sacrifice life, minions on board or even the hand you already have. There has to be some downside.

0 cost cards - I think it’s okay to have a 0 cost minion, that is low impact, but no reduction cards or spells should ever be below one! Think about it from an design POV: You are using your MANA to create a spell, spells are more powerful than minions, ergo should be more expensive.

A good meta:

I remember the days of Journey to Ungoro, Knights of the Frozen Throne and The first old gods expansion (forgot the name). Even though the meta had some very very powerful cards, you could beat any deck with any deck, and the meta was much much slower. That almost every card you played mattered, and your choices were important.

Ergo the tactical point of view:
The Hearthstone team have last couple of years pushed for a spellbased meta, that gives much less flexibility and tactics, than a minion based meta. With a minion based meta all classes will pretty much be a viable choice, your tactics will matter much more, to go face, trade or even should you play a minion on board or save it. This is what made hearthstone exicting, supplementet with identities and awesome spells that could swing the game to your favour.

My last wish:
Discovery: As you maybe have seen I think that spells should be restricted not disoverable (or very rarely at least), minions are okay.

Just my thoughts after having a bit of a bleeeh meta for the two last expansions!

Anyways what do you guys think? How would you fix HS?

The truth of the matter is, (i’m sure) not a lot of people are against it, ( they just criticized ) but over the years a lot of people have written for its improvement. But nothing has changed. This game was different and real good, instead of getting better, it started to get worse. Many people continued to write as they saw that something had not changed. This is the situation.
‘’ and some protecting it with everything they have got. ‘’ Fanaticism.
‘’ A good meta ‘’ :+1: You have made good suggestions.

3 things:

  1. Decrease the price of card packs even further, both through gold and through IRL money. Same applies to several cosmetic items that are only available through IRL cash. Alternatively increase the amount of rewards offered in the Rewards Track.

  2. Scrap the Duels collection dependence entirely - players both new and old should be able to fully enjoy the game mode without their experience being curtailed by their collections. Unlocks should be obtained through gameplay, not arbitrary amounts of cards. Also give the players full access to the card library when creating their starting deck, even if they don’t own the cards in normal gameplay.

  3. Add a queue mode that allows players to mix and match what expansions they want to see included in the card pools and being matched against opponents using the same “filters” as they are. Un’Goro + Rastakhan + Descent of Dragons + Classic sets for example.

2 things against the OP. Resetting the mmr each month is horrible for new players and just reads as “I want easy matches” which I can’t get behind. Also Frozen Throne meta was bad, DK and high roll Keleseth were not fun to play against. (Un’goro and Whispers were great metas for diversity).

Every else I agree with. Nozdormu is a weird one. I ran it in most my decks last expansion but only came up against a few people using it. 3 or 4 were people who played too slow and got hit by the rope and 1 genius was playing an OTK combo deck that roped their OTK turn 🤦

I would love to see that but i think it would be too complicated to actual programme and maybe if noone ques with the expansions you also have will have long minute ques

How I would fix HS:

Give more for people spending money. If you buy the mega bundle and complete every quest, you should get enough packs to complete that expansion. Currently on average you need to reach the end of the track (so level 400) and buy the mega bundle to get the amount of packs needed on average to complete the set, that is too much.

In an ideal world, there should be an option where you can buy a bundle that gets you the whole set, but it’s non-disenchantable. Before you buy there must be 2 big warnings saying “this can’t be dusted, if we nerf something tough!”.

Better pre-release testing. Now in general I’m actually fine with how the power level of the sets are at release. They are gona get some wrong or miss things entirely (lol corridor creeper) but that can be fixed with a balance patch. Where I think they really miss the mark is on testing how fun decks are TOO PLAY AGAINST. This expansion has magnified the problem more than ever, in that the decks people are complaining about for a lot of people will be fun to play, but they seem to have put no thought into the game from the opponents side. At is best hearthstone is fun, even if you lose, currently it’s fun half the time, if you like a specific type of deck and that’s not good enough.

The big one: Add a fully customizable tournament mode.
What I specifically mean by this is the person in charge can edit everything. So you could chose the sets used, ban specific cards, change the turn timer, turn off animations, anything you can think of.

Everything else is I think just my personal preference, like the fact that I think random mage secrets currently annoy me more than anything i can think of, so Ring Toss is actually my most hated card

Remove the expansion, go redesign it, and relaunch it.

Sort out Battleground Battlemaster for starters.
Cant even risk leaving minions on board after round 5. WTF!!!

  • Incanter’s flow nerfed to 3 mana, made legendary

  • Stealer of souls Hall of famed (broken in both wild and standard, shouldn’t be in the game)

  • Prismatic Jewel Kit only gives your minions +1/+1 if you break the DS, not if your opponent does it.

  • All quest reward minions changed to 5/5, cost increased to 6 mana.

  • Arcane shot increased to 4 mana

  • An argument can also be made to make the mage quest function as DH quest, meaning that you need to complete the whole sequence of Fire/Frost/Arcane spell in 1 turn to complete the stage. Shouldn’t be totally out of the question with how cheap mages spells are.

They should implement a public test realm, as they do with WOW, prior to any new expansion.

Buy over the comp,

Fire EVERYONE

Bring back some of the retired staff that left cuz of Blizzard F-up

Hire Skillfull players that are part of the community. Even streamers if possible.

Reset the entire HS Game so we can re-implement all of it in a Faster pace but balanced. (Without having to remove certain card) seriously where they F is the Sylvannas Card that used to be a standard legendary?!

When the whole game got multiple expansions in it. Make ranked Deck rotate between expansions each month. For instant

Januari: Knights of the Frozen Throne, Forged in the Barrens & Gadzetzan.
Feb: Witchwood, Old Gods, BlackRock Mountains
March: Stormwind, Frozen Throne, Old Gods
April: (what is in wild is in Ranked as well since april Fools)
May: … (You got the idea of what I am trying to explain)

That’s what I would do

i would say look at the philosophy of buffing whats weak instead of nerfing what is strong

They already do that. The last set of buffs happened part way through the last expansion. They’ve been doing the nerf the top cards + buff the weak cards for a little while now.

Broadly…

  1. More balance tweaks. Usually we see a couple of roundsper expansion, and maybe 5 or 6 cards each. This means it is quite hard to refine balance well. The cards that get changed are the ones that stand out - the ones that are too strong. The deep field of mediocrity doesn’t see much of a change. Being a bit more proactive about buffing some of the trash legends/epic cards to provide a richer card pool would be nice. An explicit aim of seeing as broad a range of cards used as possible is something I would welcome.

  2. A focus on interaction and choice. It has always been somewhat true, but in the current set (stormwind) especially so, that there is so, so much hanging on a single card in so many decks with very little way to interact with it. Helping ensure decks have multiple different win conditions will promote diversity and make it more likely different games will feel different. Ways to prevent cards being drawn, ways to interact with opponent quests, ways to undo “for the rest of the game” effects (not always easy or good cards, but if people can swap in effective answers at a cost it helps keep these things under control). OTK will sometimes be fine but there should be ways to interfere with its set-up.
