So I play 10 matches of Ranked a Day. I think Hearthstone hates me because when I build Warlock Deck I lose all 10 matches. Yet, when I make me another class like Druid. I will win 6 and lose 4 but two of those would be a Warlock. Same goes for when I make me a Paladin or Rogue. I was wondering if someone could friend me in building a couple of decks and tips on how make a decent deck to. I do not plan to me among the Pro’s but I would like rise in the ranks more than I am. So if anyone could help and teach me. I would greatly appreciate it
In 3-4 years I gained a lot of experience in deckbuilding, I had my own decks climbing to rank 5 quite a few times a problem that I encountered was not being able to make decks for certain classes, I’ll try to explain:
Druid-one of my favorites to build with, I had plenty of decks that would just come together somehow, I feel like the options are many and often I am surprized that people didn’t experiment with them before
Warrior-incredibly hard to find a win condition surviving tools and draw engine that work, the value is very limmited, the tempo is unsustainable, the general cards are jokes that would have been better as neutral cards and when there is something possible in warrior it’s already mentioned of in the meta snap shots because it was some heavy synergy thing that blizz pushed hard
Now a lot of people would disagree with me and that’s the point, you might not be able to play every class well, let alone build for it, my friend Toad is a great warrior and a bad priest, I’m at the opposite end :)) that’s how it goes
Try:
●choosing a class, focus on it until you feel it’s fine to drop the project, dropping it is better than never having started it as you’re left with experience
●find a way to gain experience with the class, play some decks from the internet with it and if it feels natural enough try picking it in arena
●arena is a place where you have to go for the basic module of a class, also if you are gonna go for it be open, there are 9 classes that you need to learn as you won’t always get to pick the one you want.
Also some classes are just hard to build sometimes in arena, hunter for example, one of my favs in constructed and my worst arena class
● try your own ideas, put them together and doctor your deck until it’s something you’re proud of, don’t try to climb in particular, way too often one can’t build a tier 1 deck which is also fine
EDIT: If you want help from the forums it’d be best to tell us what cards you have (I have all druid cards and no paladin cards besides the heal package, for example) what style you wanna approach (aggro, combo, control) and how you’re gonna train, in case you want to work with us, cause here are some of the nicest people I know who I’m sure would like to add you and play a bunch
If you want help with Mage, Priest, Warlock, Druid, Hunter and Shaman I might be able to help, but I’m almost uncapable of doing anything with the other 3 classes
Some solid advice from Sheercold. I think I only disagree with his point about arena. I agree that you can get a bunch of fundamentals, but it is a fundamentally different experience from constructed since the synergies are either lower or you need to know what you are doing.
If you don’t mind a piece of advice, open a thread here with the deck you are building. There are many deckbuilders here and a couple of great Warlock deckbuilders and players. However, let me warn you that Warlock is in quite a tough spot both in Standard and in Wild, meaning, won’t be easy to get deck to work.
Something that you mentioned that is worth noting is that you said that when you play Warlock you lose a lot, when you play Druid you lose less but you lose against Warlock. That is completely expected. Warlock is currently weak in this meta. But if you play a deck that is weak against Warlock, then you’ll lose against it. Just because you lose with a class, doesn’t mean you should be able to beat it with some deck you made. You can have the best deck in the world, it will still be weak against something.
Open a thread with your deck and will help and good luck!
YOU DARE CALL ME WEAK?
As an addition to both previous posts, learning how to build a deck is not always enough. You also have to know how to pilot a deck. It’s usually easier for one of your own decks, since you know why a specific card was put in.
Finally, when making a thread with your current deck, put in an explanation on how you want the deck to work. What are your key cards and about which cards do you have any doubts?
First and foremost, don’t get discouraged. Deckbuilding is a tough process and there is no better teacher than failure. Figure out and stick to your strengths. Are you more comfortable playing offensively or defensively. Which class is best suited to how you want to achieve victory. In some rare cases are you able to create an archetype within a class that people won’t see coming…a control hunter or an aggro priest as a couple of random examples (This can be very effective as opponents will often assume your playstyle when they see the match up so, if you’re playing druid, they will likely assume you are playing token and mulligan accordingly to counter you). The more you can deviate from the meta, the more likely you are to surprise and confuse your opponent.
I’m kind of a defensive player so I like to build my decks around ways of nullifying opponents threats and counterattacking. One of my processes is to take a step back and look at the meta, see what the top 3-4 decks are, what are their win conditions and what can I do to disrupt them, while creating a win condition for myself also. Once I have this information I’ll sit down and work out which class gives me the best options to achieve these goals in the most efficient way. For example, last meta resurrect priest and wall priest were 2 of the most popular decks. Creating a dragon based priest deck gave me the opportunity to include Twilight Acolytes and Cabal Shadow Priests to weaken and then steal an opponents threat cards and nullify their win conditions but, on top of that, these 2 cards…whether used separately or in combo…are extremely versatile and were valuable weapons against several archetypes…making their inclusion extremely efficient because of their versatility.
Playing arena can be a good, if costly, way to learn about card efficiency as, in the deck building process, having to choose between different cards to include makes you think about their value, synergy and effectiveness.
It’s always good to remember that deckbuilding is not a quick process. Even when you’ve managed to build a good core of a deck, the fine tuning process can take a lot of games and time to tweak it to work well against multiple different types of opponent
You need a win condition.
If it’s Tempo, playing lots of minions and taking care of the board, have a strong early-game and put it some strong finishers at 5-6 mana. Card draw is nice if you can generate Tempo with it.
If it’s Control, controlling the board through spells and generating value, look for boardclears, some early-game and some late-game value generators/finishers. Card draw is also pretty nice.
If it’s Combo, playing a specific combination of cards to win the game on the spot, add lots of card draw and survivability tools (taunts/boardclears).
I appreciate your advice, Vlad. Unfortunately I have never done a thread so far have only written messages. Yours, Sheercold and Rayven made are great advice. Thank you so much and maybe in the future we can become friends. Take Care, Fellow Hearthstone Friend
You made a thread here, didn’t you? Just make a new one and paste the deck code in it. The forum will show the full list for that deck.
Dude, this we’re talking on IS a thread, just make another like you made this one and if you like you can ask for our nametags to add us in the game
Awe, Thanks Phillybear. Some reason I thought a thread was something else and no not needle and thread. Haha! Alright, I will make a thread then
