Starting to feel like this is an expansion of ‘how may different cards can we re-hash and re-release with old mechanics?’
Let’s look at some of the cards so far…
Togwaggle……reworked with Marin’s treasure loot and re-released
Blastmaster Boom…basically just a class specific rework of the original Dr. Boom card
Arch-Villain Rafaam……reworked with the golden monkey effect
The Forest’s Aid…Landscaping 2.0…almost triple the effect, almost triple the cost…but now with added deja vu
Togwaggle’s scheme…Lab Recruiter 2.0…but now you get no minion on the board and have to wait till its effect is as good.
Rafaam’s Scheme…Fiendish Circle 2.0…but costs one less because you have to wait 3 turns for it to do the same thing as a card that never got used anyway
Dr. Booms Scheme…a warrior spell that adds armor……totally original…oh wait
Mass Ressurect……Diamond Spellstone was too OP so we’ve shuffled it out and replaced it with a more useless version
Hecklebot….where have I seen this before? Oh…I see…Dirty Rat got a bionic upgrade and sent back out there
Don’t get me wrong, there’s been some interesting card releases so far too, but I don’t think I can remember ever seeing so many re-hashes of old cards and mechanics in one expansion release and we aren’t even halfway through the card release yet.
If there’s no OTK counter, then the only counter is to kill the opponent, so aggro wr numbers get inflated, so more people play aggro.
I think this expansion gets a bit of a bye as it’s going for a bit of a nostalgia route. So I’m ok with this particular one having more mechanically similar cards to those of the past than normal, as long as they’res still a good chunk of new stuff.
That’s one of the good/bad things about the standard format. You expect there to be near reprints all the time just so you have interesting interactions being available for only some of the time. But any counters/ways to reintroduce these interactions into standard, are gona feel partially like a rehash.
You do realize that after fu**ing up real hard the best thing they can do is nothing, right? cause if they start making new mechanics that might be problematic and minions that might end powering up a deck too much or being seen in every deck (giggling inventor) deciding game after game they will loose the player base as well as making a mess of the game in general
believe me they have TOOO MANY IDEAS
Damn, if you keep “the worst meta ever” comment in every post I’ll have to take away the award of “The worst troll-hope it was” from ExtraKun and give it to you.
You are clearly a rank 20 player who’s been here for 2-3 expansions at most and who plays big spell mage-kinda decks without healing cause that’s what they’ve seen a streamer play, only the streamer was a good player.
They actually do this all the time, in their first expansions they had
2 mana 2/1 draw a card upon death
4 mana 4/2 draw a card upon death
you know why it’s that?
to be able to make specialized decks, by your logic I could say that we don’t need the 3 mana 3/1 divine shield cause we already have a divine shield minion (1 mana 1/1) and then, a player that made a divine shield deck will be sad cause he can’t make his deck work
this…do you like warrior?
welll…you have iron hide, that’s it, and the hero power, from now on, we will no longer print armor gain for warrior …this really got me mad, i was expecting valid arguments from you…
Replicating card effects in itself is not necessarily a bad thing when it’s things things like draw a card or divine shield because they are innocuous standard effects. What’s annoying me this time is they are taking legendary style effects and replicating them…golden monkey effect on Rafaam, Marins loot on Togwaggle, Dr. Boom doing almost exactly what the old Dr. Boom used to do. It’s one thing creating a new deathrattle card that draws a card on death, but creating a ‘new legendary’ that does pretty much what an old legendary used to do is just pure laziness and that’s only accentuating the fact that they are replicating other old cards unique effects.
Are you mad at me??? Tbh I’m just fed up of over-armored warriors. It probably wouldn’t bother me so much if it wasn’t for cards like shield slam…and shield slam probably wouldn’t bother me too much if it removed armor on use like reckless flurry and/or wasn’t so ridiculously cheap. Warriors are built for control and survival, I get that, but do these scheme cards have a limit to the power they gain from holding them? In a fatigue match up can a warrior suddenly use 2 of these and get 40…50 armor for 8 mana? Can you name another class/card that can effectively heal you for 30 health for 4 mana? Imagine this in Wild combined with dead mans hand??? When you shuffle the copy into your deck does it keep the benefit its gained from being in your hand all this time? If it’s a copy of the card in your hand then theoretically it should, which means the next one you get could start in hand with add 20 armor and keep getting stronger.
That’s actually one of the reasons why I liked Bladed Gauntlet. It turned something that you just accumulated over a match into something you can use against your opponent as more than an extra layer of health. Noggenfogger and Gauntlet with 30+ armor is always funny to see land on the opponent’s face. Hope they reveal some sort of card that does something similar while not being a blatant replacement for Reckless Flurry.
What would you like to see? Bladed gauntlet I had no issue with, at least that had the drawback of taking some face damage when you used it to remove a minion. Shield slam annoys the hell out of me because it effectively becomes a 1 cost remove any minion with absolutely no drawback whatsoever. It would be much better balanced in my opinion if they added ‘take damage equal to the damage done’ (upto the max health of the minion) or ‘take damage equal to target’s attack’. So fed up with odd warrior at the minute because its so awkward to play around. Can’t flood the board because of brawl, reckless flurry, warpath. Can’t put out big minions because of shield slam, execute, Smolderthorn Lancer. In the mean time they are just sitting back piling on more and more armor and throwing out the occasional minion.
Nay
reprinting cards is standart procedure, there are infinite combinations, but finite balanced interactions. Besides, the new expo seems to be used as a brake for the streak of power creeping from the last 3.
I agree…with smaller mechanics like divine shield, draw a card, summon a minion, trigger a deathrattle etc…but not with legendary mechanics. Legendary mechanics are supposed to be unique
