Lucky top-decking certainly occurs, but it’s not that your opponent has all the answers. It is that he actively searches for the right cards to play to reclaim the board.
An easy example from yesterday’s Arena match. I’m playing Mage against another Mage opponent.
I have Gangplank Diver and two small minions on board. He has a wounded Arcanalogist and plays a 7/7 Legendary(that doubles the stats of minions in his hand).
How do I answer his board? My health is lower than his, and I have to push face damage because my hand is not great.
My turn, I draw Sketchy Stranger. I play it to discover one of these three: Double Cross, Perjury and Judgment of Justice.
What is the correct play in this situation? Perjury gives me uncertainty, Double Cross gives me conditional card draw which I don’t need, Judgment of justice grants a debuff to an enemy minion.
I dispose of the Arcanologist to reduce his board to a single minion, and play Judgment of Justice, and go face with the rest of the board.
He trades into my Gangplank Diver with the 7/7 and gets reduced to a 1/1. He has lost his board at this point, and has to waste cards from his hand to remove it.
What is the card that helps my opponent to reclaim the board?
He has Deathborne. So he pings my damaged Diver reducing him to 2 health, and destroys my board to summon volatile skeletons, and plays a strong taunt with the rest of his mana.
I have specifically saved face damage cards to put him into lethal range. I play the Infused minion that deals 5 damage, and then play Arcane Bolt and ping his face.
He’s at 1. Next turn I win.
He plays a Death Knight attack buff spell he’s gotten from Sunwell on a previous turn, He puts me at 2 health, and plays a secret.
I ping his face for lethal. What would the misplay be in this case? If I play a minion before pinging. Because if it’s Explosive Runes, then I lose.

This is what skill means in some random idiots head that thinks he actually plays the game…It’s all luck until you get to do terrible decisions like “kill my opponent with a ping” or “BM him hard by playing all this minions into his secrets instead of just winning.”
For everyone who doesn’t want to read his mumbo jumbo, he just said that he pinged for lethal instead of playing a minion into explosive rune secret that the opponent had and he had 2 life. Calls that skill. This is a summarization of a long and useless I played curve stone post and took the biggest skill decision in my life.
Let me tell you my story of skillstone : I play vs undead dk, he plays minions on board, I keep all rush minions in hand win the board of course…He plays morrogaw cuz of course they have it on turn one in hand, I play equality + city tax which of course I had in hand from turn 1(which is a very skillful move, considering I do not know he is unholy dk, he might be blood so this is VERRY VERRRRRYYY SKILLFULL I TELL YOU , it’s not a simple statistic it’s skill), he conceeds…THE SKILL WAS AMAZING . The end.
I play vs evolve shaman, I keep equaility in muligan, he transforms a gnoll and lost it vs a 4/1 and equality. That’s it, it was that easy, after that he couldn’t do anything else…The END SKILLSTTOOOOONEEEEEE (this was a story from the past…There aren’t any more classes beside unholy/frost burn dk and the occasional death rattle warlock.)
