as stated, was playing a game when a Kj hit the board. i had a flameward on the board but KJ doesn´t trigger that… weird since KJ gave me dmg from his ability ( in my mind that´s an attack)
the game doesn’t see it as an attack.
an attack in hearthstone is a standardized action in which a minion deals its own attack value to a target. it is triggered by selecting a minion and then the target (as opposed to being triggered by summoning a minion) and if the target is valid, the attack gets resolved.
an invalid target for an attack for example is an opposing minion when your opponent has a taunt minion as well. then only the taunt is a valid target.
comparing that to knife juggler: its ability can hit minions even when taunt minions are on board.
It’s not an “attack” as defined by the game, it’s “damage” and no damage effect will trigger flameward.
If Knife Juggler’s ability was “Attack a random target” then yes, Flame Ward would trigger if the hero was targeted. But as it’s just “Deal 1 damage to a random target” there is no actual attack triggered so, as Khisana said, there’s no triggering of the secret.
It’s not an attack, it’s damage. You wouldn’t say “my opponent cast lava burst on my face so they attacked me” the minion does damage through an effect
