Hi all.
As the title suggests, I would like to know how the cultist would behave with multiple dormant minions on the board and I would be very thankful, if a developer answers this question. I’m interested in learning whether the epic minion checks, if there are 6 other cultists on the board OR if only the available board spaces are full of the aforementioned 1/1s.
Now, I’m aware what the logical response would be, but the dormant mechanic creates very strange interactions:
Reliquary Seeker’s text states, that the player must have 6 other minions on the board, in order to get the +4/+4 buff. But according to hearthstone wiki:
Permanents are not considered minions for most purposes, but sometimes contribute to minion counting effects.
*Effects include permanents in their counting if they have conditions that otherwise could not be met due to the permanent taking up a spot on the battlefield.
Example: Reliquary Seeker’s Battlecry activates with 5 other minions and a permanent on the battlefield, despite requiring “6 other minions”.
it can get stronger even if the number of active creatures doesn’t correspond to those of her condition. And I don’t think, that dormant creatures count as normal minions for her effect, because otherwise Mind Control Tech’s battlecry would trigger, if you control 3 active minions on the board and at least 1 in dormant state. But this isn’t the case.
And that’s why I’m curious to know how Mogu Cultist would behave once the expansion hits.
Reliquary Seeker counts “other minions”, Mogu Cultist counts other Mogu Cultists. I don’t think the dormant minions will be considered Mogu Cultists, mainly because they still have their own name (which is not Mogu Cultist)
The way filling one’s board works is bizarre, we have cards that read “fill the board” and we don’t know if it checks for available spaces, which it most likely does, or the amount of minions of the board, which could still be possible. If you have 6 cultists on board and 1 dormant creature, like The Darkness, then the cultists would activate, as your board is full with the cultists, they are the only minions there and there’s no more space left so the board if sull with them, right? …well no, I think what should have been done is “if you control 7 cultists…” and that would have saved us a lot of pointless talk that we can just ignore until we check the interactions.

@ Philly
This is why I mentioned MCT.

MCT doesn’t consider dormant creatures as part of the 4-minion requirement, so like I said, I know what the logical answer should be, but the dormant mechanic creates many strange scenarios.
But I completely agree with Sheercold. This discussion is indeed pointless, since we can only speculate how the interaction would be. This is why I am hoping for a developer to enlighten us.
sorry mate, 2 points I want to make
1-“board is full” and the number of minions are very distinct conditions
if it checked for a full board then it could check if there are 7 minions, or if there can be any more minions summoned, this very little piece of informations is worth 20 damage to all enemies as well as a 20/20 body. I personally think they should be bolder and clearer with what they’re doing, they could avoid a lot of confusion by making changes that I could do with what I’ve learned in high school, but that sounds very narcissistic so I’m sorry, just instead of banning Toast for streaming an interaction they should have covered they could very well consult him
2 There are no devs on this forum, only mods and the mods are more like human resources while what you’re searching for is IT design, sorry to disappoint you mate
response to 1: I’m sorry mate, I’m just frustrated with them you know? :))
response to 2: I’m afraid in 3-4 years of activity here (and I’m again apologizing to my very loved forum mates) I never saw any response from the developers here, or directed at stuff written here, mods maybe, and if you want you could go to the US server, which gets the least amount of attention at least, I mean you’re likely to get a (better) response there, sorry for wasting your time here, I should have directed you there from the very beginning
don’t worry, we get our kicks from people like you, you literally brighten our days actually
that being said, I hope you enjoyed it here, don’t forget to leave a bad review to the Hearthstone app on appstore or whatever it is called on your particular device and …yeah, keep going, you have an anonymous 4 stars from me mate

No need to apologize, mate. You were very kind and helpful to me.
I wish you and Phillybear to have a nice evening.

Yea, my point wasn’t to make a difference between MCT and Seeker, but to make a difference between those two and the Cultist: both MCT and Reliquary Seeker don’t specify any characteristic of the other minions (health, name, class, …). They only look at the number (in different ways). The new Cultist should look specifically at the name of the other 6 minions. If those names are not Mogu Cultist, the battlecry shouldn’t trigger. But like you and Sheercold already said, until the expansion launches, this will remain “should” and “shouldn’t”.
Had a nice evening. Thank you very much. Have a nice one as well.
