I’ve played hearthstone form Beta and not once have I felt the need to express my opinion on a new expansion, however Perils in Paradise I have to provide some feedback as it is just awful to play. It has some amazingly fun cards introduced such as Corpsicle to give another way to use Climactic Necrotic Explosion or Incindius for a OTK in the end game. But games ending by turn 6 - 7 - 8 due to the overwhelming amount of burst or easy combo which seem to do way to much damage just doesn’t make these fun ways to play viable. Druid’s using Seabreeze Chalice and then 3 more changes from Tidepool pupil, then gaining 3 more from Mistah Vistah and making them all cost 0? What is going on? Or warrior infinitely resurrecting Zilliax by turn 7 with Chemical Spill + Inventor Boom along with Hydration Station. Dying from a Lamplighter in any elemental deck. There are no counter decks towards getting killed from hand.
I’ve always looked forward to new releases and changing up the meta, if that is through a new expansion or just simply the core set getting shuffled around, but I’m afraid this one has missed the mark for me, I would like to play the game not seeing the looking for match screen after 5 minutes.
No healthy game should allow OTKs in a system where the player cannot respond during the opponent’s turn. Especially not by turn6.
Unless the game also offers answers. Which, in this case, there are none.
In details:
Lamplighter kills from hand. There’s no answer. If Blizzard wants Lamplighter to do its thing, then they have to give the equivalent of MtG Ivory Mask as neutral card.
Unkilliax is just the death of the game. If they want to keep it, then they need to add a mass poly at cc5.
Incindius kills from deck. Another OTK with no answer. Why not leaving Steamcleaner in the format?
Druid kills from hand. Seems they still never learned about the golden rule “do NOT allow spell to cost 0”. Concierge should reduce to “not less than 1”. Or it should be removed from the format.
Want a fast meta with boards flooded by turn 5? I’m ok with that. But then you have to give us Twisting Nether neutral at cc4.
I am not against powercreep at all, but this is toxic. Powercreep should be proportionated to the possible answers the game offers. The actual status of the game can be simply reduced to the fact we have cards that give +10 tempo/value but counters that give only -1 tempo/value, thus creating an impossible situation related to balance.
And a complete lack of answers in most cases.
Completely agree, this expansion was so badly thought out. The card designs (some are alright and fun) but the rest? Specifically made for one reason and that is to annoy their player base, I don’t even think nerfing them will change anything with how they are, they’ve made a massive mistake they can’t fix… at all.
Another BS combo is the new Handbuff Pala with Sailboat captain + Southsea Deckhand, it’s basically another turn 5-6-7 OTK if you have no taunt up, if they play Sanc’Azel turn 5 you’re pretty much dead, Blizzard literally removed Windfury from Shroomscavate because it was broken with charge minions and woops new expansion windfury comes back.
