Old Rogue Quest getting 'rebalanced' again

It’s that time of the year again! The last Rogue Quest nerf has been long ago enough, so Blizz decided to change the quest reward once more.

  • After Crystal Core is played, the base copies of your minions will now have 4/4 stats. The stat numbers will appear as white, instead of the green text indicating a buff. This means that if your opponent steals or silences your minion, it will remain as a 4/4.
    • Additionally, minions currently in play will receive a onetime effect that sets their stats to 4/4, overriding current enchantments and clearing damage.
  • Some interactions will change under this new functionality. Cards that create a copy of a minion with specifically stated stats (Sonya Shadowdancer, Prince Taldaram, Barnes, etc) will now work as written on the card text. For example, the minion summoned by Barnes will be a 1/1, instead of a 4/4.

Same rules apply to Tekahn btw

This is a nerf to Big Priest actually since you can now silence the Y’Shaarj and it won’t become a 10/10 or Ragnaros and it won’t become a 8/8.

Now that I think of it… if this applied to Barnes puppet mana cost, it would severely injure the archetype.

I think they mean the quest + Barnes interaction (due to the ‘instead of a 4/4’ part). Barnes in general will remain unchanged imo. So Big Priest has nothing to fear.

They should fear me…

Epic · Spell · Saviors of Uldum · Transform all minions into random Murlocs.

This really seems like an unnecessary change and nerf to a card that, as far as I know, is not considered as a ‘problem’ in Wild by players. They got bigger problems there to worry about.

Even though I don’t play Wild myself I find this change rather disheartening because, even though I understand why some people hate the Caverns Below/Crystal Core, I thought that out of all the Un’Goro quests the Rogue one was the most interesting and even fun to complete. The way how you had to bounce minions back to your hand was very Rogue-like to me. I played the deck quite a bit before the rotation and loved to use Sonya in the deck and play 1-mana 4/4s.

They can call this as a ‘fix’ all they want and say they want to keep the game consistent, which I can understand. But the fact of a matter is that this is a big nerf that will greatly affect the way the deck performs and is built. Dust refunds should be given in this case in my opinion.

They finally nerf what needed to be nerfed in wild, so happy

Don’t count on it. They also ‘fixed’ my sweet Lynessa into the ground without refunds. And they tried to do the same with Tess, but faced a huge community outrage.

True, Quest Rogue the Wild meta destroyer was finally dealt with.

Now this Barnes fella, that guy looks really fun…

I think this change is long overdue to be honest. I have no problem with the quest making all minions 4/4, but it always bugged me that the minions stats weren’t affected by cards like equality/twilight acolyte/pint size potion and such the like. You’d do something to reduce the rogue minions stats and they would just go back to being 4/4 immediately which basically granted them immunity to quite a few defensive plays

So basically they fixed a bug that was way overdue which would result in a nerf

What Rayven says.

If the design of the Rogue quest had been to make all minions 4/4 and immune to stat changes, then stat buffs should also be disabled. E.g. a Shattered Sun Cleric on a 4/4 would not change it at all. But I’m pretty sure a lot of Rogue players would get upset over that.

So it’s either one or the other. Either they’re 4/4 and nothing can change it. Or they’re 4/4 until other effects change their stats.
I’m glad it’s finally going to be consistent.
