Please remove discover mechanic

It feels great when your opponent discovers 3 x Leviathan from gorillabot, etc etc. Please stop letting RNG determine the outcome of a game.

Well before the discover mechanic, it was the “add a random card” era so actually discover lowered the rng.

Could always try classic as that is definitely the lowest rng mode but even back then armoursmith always wins brawls, Rag always goes face and it’s always Huffer

My favorite deck is Questline Casino Mage I’ve made in Wild.

You win some, you lose some, but I always find it fun, with variable outcomes and hilarious results. It’s not a deck that’s built to overwhelm the opponent, but to outlast them in value.

Key card: Clumsy Courier. When in doubt about what to do, put one on board, and watch particles fly.

In one memorable game a few days ago, I’ve killed a Boar Priest with Eye for an Eye.

As the meme says: “Well, yes, but actually no”
You’re correct that it is less random, but the OPs complaint was about the RNG determining the outcome of the game. By not factoring in the choice given to the player with the Discover mechanic you’re overlooking the impact the RNG can have.

Also, another way of looking at is it that the player doing the discover is unlikely not to choose the ridiculously good card they get offered, so they now get 3x the chance to get the ridiculous game-winning card out of the blue, versus 1 chance with ‘add a random card’.

I wasn’t really. My post was more along the lines of “be careful what you wish for” in that discover was a way to lower rng by making it more consistent i.e. as you pointed out, more powerful.

Currently we’re at the smallest discover pool per cycle, so it’s at its most powerful i.e. the least rng. What you actually want is more rng so the good cards come up less.

That’s why Discover cards are quite exciting in Wild- so many sets to choose from.

I just used that leviathan as an example, when I say remove discover im talking about for all classes. Maybe people like it, but personally I hate when people play discover cards and get the perfect answer feels like losing to luck because you cant affect the outcome of the cards you get to choose, it’s random.

I personally hate Zephrs (sp?) more and that’s next to no rng, just gives you an answer.

Legend player here for years. I think having discover in a game like hearthstone is absolutely idiotic. To have people win games off of pure rng as part of a competitive meta is just stupid. The only rng there should be in a card game is what cards you draw to start, mulligan, and draw per turn. For example I just lost a game where I baited out a quest warrior to play enough pirates to get his cap. Rekora in hand, then I Played mutanous to devour his captain. Then the only possible way I could lose the game was for him to draw capn Smitey or discover captain Smitey. He gets amalgam, discovers Smitey, free win as given from blizzard. Skill, anticipation, experience, and counter play should be what determines a winner. Not pay to win, rng, or broken cards/decks.
