Question about the game model

Hello guys,

I took a big break from hearthstone and I have heard some rumors about the game so I dont know if the game is still free-to-play or subscription based.

The game is still indeed free-to-play. No subscriptions exist for the game itself, though it contains battle passes and other sorts of microtransactions (A fair few macro ones too, much to peoples chagrin).

A lot of controversy comes about as a result of balance changes and new card sets causing power creep issues. A ton of cards that used to work well or used to be overpowered are now outclassed by some newer ones.

Some modes have also disappeared, like Duels, or been mothballed, like Mercenaries.

Keep these in mind if you decide to come back. Personally I would steer clear of any money-spending habits. You won’t like the end results. You can have plenty of fun without spending cash if you know what you’re doing.

No its pay to win more than ever, expecially after this update. Battlegrounds are unplayable…

I have noticed that they added this reward track. Do I need to pay money to get those rewards from the reward track?

The reward track is split into two lanes. The bottom half of the track is all the free stuff you can get by playing normally. The upper half contains more valuable stuff like cosmetics and golden/signature versions of cards (Signature cards, by the way, are cards with alternative art - highly stylized that doesn’t contain the card text on the card itself, you need to hover the mouse on the card to see the effect).

Battlegrounds has a similar thing, though there is only one lane. Most of the rewards on it are something you obtain for the separate Battlegrounds battle pass they sell, but every 4 levels you obtain something for free - small stuff like hero reroll tokens. Some countries like Belgium do not allow you to purchase the Battlegrounds pass (With very few exceptions apparently).
