Well a Month has gone passed and after 2 nerf waves and the new laddering system come into play. I find the laddering system itself is poor overall. Its favoured towards high end players in the early stages. The people which have 11 bonus stars can make legend in less than 22 games from Bronze 10 to Legend.

The star system is floored overall and makes Hearthstone less fun to ladder up. I mean as your floor level goes from Diamond, Platinum, Gold,Silver ,Bronze at the cut off points at 5 and 10 stars you loss 1 of your bonus stars. New players experience is poor and difficult to ladder up so making less likely that they will stay on playing Hearthstone which was the point of the changes on the first place to generate new players.

The introduction of the Demon Hunter as a new class was refreshing. The release was nice but the next coming weeks saw a backlash against that class. The 2 waves of nerfs so far has lead to calls of Team 5 not really play tested the class properly. In that their rep has been damaged and no one really takes them at their word any more. The Team really need to take on board the mistakes they made and go back to tried and tested methods and stand up to higher management.

I was happy they aired on the side of making DH too strong and in acting fast on the card changes I’m happy enough with the addition of the new class. Over saturation of people wanting to use the new shiny toy, especially as they gave everyone a lot of the cards, was always inevitable.

I think the fact that it essentially saves your progress from month to month, especially as the newly added MMR match making keeps higher end players from facing lower end is actually a good thing for new players.

I play tested new accounts with Demon Hunter and got high Ranks. The issue is new players and the meta becoming less aggro and more classes becoming press hero power, pass turn etc. The game maybe has come to a new relaunch as there are to many expansions and card rotation HOF been taken out so thinning classic set to the point it becomes pointless.

The MMR system does not really work from experience, when you even reach Platinum/ Diamond the amount of Legend players you face is rather alarming.
It could suggest that the higher ranks show that there are alot less players in Platinum/ Diamond and Legend players fill the gaps.

In that case the MMR system needs a rework and balancing so the brackets of the ladder Ranks are similar.

Example could be Bronze/Silver are bracketed
Gold/Platinum are Bracketed
Platinum Rank 5/ Diamond Rank 10 to 6
Diamond 5 to 1/ Legend are Bracketed

That way you get similar players playing equal skilled players in my view. The future with saved progress month on month will lead to a scenario where every one rushes to Diamond Rank so the lower ranks become meaning less, thus destroying the game in the long run. Its only my view but I think the present system has inherent floors which will become more apparent as the year goes along.

So that would be good for new players then (high ranks with a free* class)? All the current top decks are aggro/tempo so I don’t know where you’re getting that idea from?

Last month everybody started at an MMR of 0, it was a clean reset, so it’s impossible to say how good it is yet. In theory it should get better the more months you play. To me it seems way better than the previous system, but that was pretty terrible, so I definitely agree that only time will tell if it’s actually any good.

Bracketing like that is how the old system worked, which led to many times where I’d crush new players with interactions they’d probably never even seen i.e. old rank 20 = bronze/silver. Surely it’s better that I don’t get matched against those players at the start of each month? Weird to be championing making my climb harder :smile:

MMR system when it started every player from the month before had Ranked stars, For me I had 10 stars. In 1 day reached Diamond 3 only played 18 games. The NA 9 stars reached Rank Diamond 8 29 games and Asia 21 games to Diamond. The games lasted between 5 mins as I started with my Demon Hunter deck crushed most people. New player account took me 84 games with no star bonus to reach diamond 5.

With Aggro as I have stated in the past Turn 5 to 8 is the win condition for most aggro decks as they run out of steam. I had this discussion with Toad a few weeks past. The new class DH is classed as aggro/tempo and can finish off people in less than 6 mins but at the higher ranks people can play around it and I find Druid, mage, warrior, rogue, priest counter it well enough. The mage , druid, priest like I said press hero power or pass turn for the first 4 turn at least no inter action.

In relation to the bracketing its not fun playing a legend player when at Gold even which has happened so MMR system is really not working as intended. With any reasonable theory the more a game gets quicker in laddering it stands that the player ratio on the upper ranks increase while the lower ranks decrease so that in turn would increase the timer in the Q for new plays making it less likely they would stay in a game.

So it kept multi year experienced you and “new player” you apart and now “new player” you has done one month of grinding your in the same position? If anything that sounds bad for the person whose grinded for 1000’s of games that a new player can catch up so fast.

The D4 - Legend Vicious Syndicate numbers:

Mage T3 sub 50% wr 38% against DH
Druid T3 sub 50% wr 41% against DH
Priest T3 sub 50% wr 44% against DH

Not if it’s matched by MMR, which it is. Queue times wont increase, skill gap between players should decrease, however you are correct in that ranking gap for that particular month will increase. Maybe as a veteran I’m bias but when I used to climb, I’d take a legendary opponent every game vs a clawing for every win rank 1-3 opponent (or rank 15 over ranks 16-17 as it became as I tried way less :smile:)

Nah its not bad just play testing the crap out of different decks and see how each server plays out. Hsreplay gives good stats but sometimes personal experience does show different results at different times of the day. HSreplay is across the board you must admit sometimes you come across certain classes at a given time to much sometimes.

(I was using VS high ranking stats as I don’t have hsreplay premium).

Yeah it definitely can seem like that. I keep facing Priests in wild casual at the moment, literally 8 out my last 10 games doing dailies. It wouldn’t bother me, but the meme decks I’ve been using have their fun taken away by mass silence :sob:

Will be interesting in a few months time to see how exactly the ladder changes play out. I probably won’t care enough and for me it’ll literally be “hey, more free stuff” come the first of each month :smile:

I was back start playing at end of The month. I had 9stars, stopped on Platinum 10 in last day
I wanted to invest more time in new month. But what’s happen Now i am stuck on gold 1-5 due to no stars at all. I lost them all lol. My account is now a trash, The system degraded me from the gamę.

With the latest data from PC Gamer there seems to be more Legend players last month the number seems to be 100,000. If that is true it makes the whole laddering JUST A WASTE OF TIME if its that easy to make Legend. New play experience is poor and in side data reveals that my thoughts may be becoming reality.

I’d say it’s then just more important were in legend you are instead of merely being in legend. so nothing changed apart from which numbers to pay attention to.

The point is Legend status becomes less of a goal to players new or returning players if it only takes 34 games from Bronze 10 to Legend. Also it would take 82 wins on a winning streak from Bronze 10 to Legend without the bonus stars.

The numbers make alot of difference to people grinding on lower ranks when Legend players get a 11/10 star bonus. Myself I get to Diamond 5 on the first day most times just playing 2 hours and 2 servers.

so for them reaching high(er) legend can become the goal instead. that was my point.
