Seriously. Nobody likes playing against big priest and it has been stated a lot of times by thousands of people. Yet you, Blizzard, keep printing these broken resurrect-type of cards and cards that synergize with the resurrect mechanic. It makes absolutely zero sense and it completely ruins Wild mode.
It’s really a bad move, I thought they were “playing it safe” but maybe withouth the statues and quest a big deathrattle priest would be fine for the game, still just gonna feel as if no expansion was being released
That may be true for Standard. I wouldn’t mind if they received some love if Standard was my thing, 'cause as you say they are losing some big cards.
But in Wild they will get a huge peak of annoyance. Their spellstone, plus the new spell that is just a new spellstone, plus Catrina… past turn 6 they will not care using these to ressurrect only one big minion (Lich king, Ragnaros, statue?), since the next one it will ressurrect one extra copy, and the next one two extra copies, and when you can’t kill all copies in a single turn (and you are still fighting for your life), Catrina will put a constant flow of new copies, and removing her will not be an option since she will be with all the remaining copies that survived last turn.
And that is the most soft scenario in which the Big Priest only played 1 minion at earlier turns with Barnes or Shadow Essence. If he had 2 different minions pre-late game, it will be twice or three times as horrible, specially if they were able to use the 2 and 4 mana ressurrections before late-game.
Yeah, Big Priests can die to very aggresive decks. But pure aggresiveness is not my style, so I openly admit that they are my direct counter. That doesn’t disallow me to point out the lack of balance in their difficulty-to-play/power; if you are alive past turn 6 as Big Priest, snowballing exponentially is a matter of having the right card in your hand each turn. Nothing complex about it.
The problem is not the cards themselves. The problem in my opinion at least, is that Hearthstone only has two major formats. Standard and Wild.
What the game needs is more formats with different rules, like Pauper, Legacy and Vintage (for example) as they are in Magic The Gathering. Or something completely new.
Pauper: Only common cards are legal (this would actually help new F2P players to grind gold and packs).
Vintage: Is the same as Hearthstone Wild
Limited: Almost like Vintage, with a banlist of some OP cards.
Rarity format could extend in subfomats based on rarity (one for rares only, one for epics only, one for legendaries only).
Even / Odd decks could also go into their own format, where only Genn and Baku decks are allowed.
They could also implement a format where every season up to 6 different expansion cards are allowed - randomly generated.
We could have a format with “Year of XX” where people can play decks from past year metas.
I mean, there can be a billion formats that can be implemented, be it DK only decks, tournament only decks, hell… even class only formats or anything we can (or can’t even) imagine.
Multiple formats would solve the issue with being overwhelmed / frustrated / bored by facing only the same decks over and over, as people would spread out to these, hence less chances to queue against a big priest 3-4-5 times in a row.
To many modes will increase queu times, i dont know how many active players are online at certain times of the day but if ress priest becomes even more of a problem with vargoth/mind blast then im sure a fix will be in place.
revamp mind blast to 2mana deal 3 damage to any character or increase the mana cost of resurrect or any other solution could be implemented.
It depends on how many people will spread out.
More diversity though and more things to do in a game (any game) results in more people playing it.
BTW, I made a new thread specifically for the formats here: How about more formats? - Feedback / Ideas
Really depends on what format you’re talking about, and to be quite honest, I dn’t think these new cards will have too much impact on big priest. Wild has all the tools it needs anyway and, apart from the new legendary, I don’t think any of the new cards are better replacements for the old ones.
As for standard, I don’t think big priest will be viable with the cards it has left so I wouldn’t worry about it in standard.
TL:DR These cards won’t impact big priest much at all in my opinion
