The Best Wandering Monsters

I just played two matches today as Spell Hunter, one in Ranked and one in Casual. And I must say I got the PERFECT minions from Wandering Monster in those two games.

Game 1, in Ranked against an Odd Mage. She had two Dire Moles on the board, attacked with one of them and I got Mindbreaker. You know what that means; the Mage couldn’t use her Hero Power to ping. Besides one Dire Mole (I finished the second one with Candleshot), she got nothing else on the board and conceded. On around turn 4 or so.

Second game was on Casual. Another Odd Mage, funnily enough. I had played Wandering Monster and Explosive Trap. She had a Pyromaniac, at 3 health cos I hit it once with Candleshot, and a Stonehill Defender on board. Stonehill Defender attacks, triggers both secrets and the minion I got was Dalaran Mage. My first reaction was “Crap. That’s a bad roll.” But to my surprise both Stonehill Defender and Pyromaniac died to Explosive Trap. Dalaran Mage’s +1 Spell Damage made the trap deal 3 damage. :stuck_out_tongue:

I won the match in the end.

Have you ever got any such good and very lucky Wandering Monsters? Or were you the more unfortunate opponent to see it happen? I remember seeing a Kibler video where he got a Drakkari Defender. A 2/8 Taunt minion on turn 3-4 is pretty darn good. :+1:

Yeah there are some brutal niche highrolls with that card.

I remember an arena run where I attacked in with a 4/4 minion and they got Mukla which I believe was the only minion that could give them lethal for the next turn, when I had almost guaranteed lethal the turn after…was not amused lol.

I prefer the funny ones where it screws the hunter to be honest…like when a spell hunter gets alarm-o-bot that can’t actually summon anything or humungous razorleaf that just sits there doing nothing or…my personal favourite, howlfiend :stuck_out_tongue:

Mukla is really the strongest 3 drop enemy can get in terms of stats. The next strongest one imo is teh 5/1 rager

Attack-wise, maybe. But it doesn’t really matter if it dies to literally anything. King Mukla, and many others, can still live.

Not really because, unless you have another secret that is going to kill/remove the attacking minion the rager dies immediately, and anyone who has any sense playing against a spell hunter will not attack with their strongest minion first if they have the option when the hunter has secress on the board

I think the Basilisk is gona be better than the rager in nearly every scenario.

Some of the better high-rolls in Wild (because Wandering Monster has less than a month left in Standard) are

Taunt: Crypt Lord, Deathlord, Drakkari Defender, Reckless Diretroll, Tar Creeper
Deathrattle: Dancing Swords, Deathlord (again), Spider Bomb
Poisonous: Emperor Cobra, Giant Wasp, Stoneskin Basilisk
High Attack + Health: Arcane Golem, Dancing Swords, Injured Blademaster, King Mukla, Marsh Drake, Ogre Brute, Ornery Tortoise, Unlicensed Apothecary (if you don’t have minion spawning traps), the listed Taunt minions

Low rolls include Alarm-o-Bot, Blubber Baron, Howlfiend, Humongous Razorleaf, Ironbeak Owl, Kobold Apprentice, Microtech Controller, Moroes, Ravencaller, Sewer Crawler, Silithid Swarmer, Spring Rocket, Unlicensed Apothecary (if you have something like Snake Trap up), Voodoo Doll.

The Ragers (and Elder Longneck) are “ok”. While only Am’gam Rager is likely to survive an attacking minion, the rest are almost certain to take down whatever was attacking. And doing a face check into a Rager is painful. Am’gam will usually leave a body behind which can be used to trade with if it doesn’t get caught up in an AoE.

My best was a frostling berserker. Won about 3 turns later wit 14 attack or so

I actually got a Drakkari Defender from a Wandering Monster earlier today against an Odd Rogue. He conceded soon after XD I might be able to dig up the replay at some point.

Lol, that is just a example of things not going your way and then concede, was it at ranked ?

Yes it was. Rank 24 though.

I was playing my odd secret mage the other day when i met another odd mage. He drops Astromancer with 3 cards remaining in his hand and me having explosive trap active. The Astromancer summons a Howl Fiend and dies to my explosive trap. I cast arcane missles and all 3 of them hits the Fiend leaving him with no cards in hand. He conceded right after.

Was the funniest game i had.

I was utterly confused there for a second until I realised you meant Explosive Runes. I was thinking, how on EARTH did a mage get Explosive Trap and how did a secret that needs the minion to attack to trigger it and only does 2 damage kill an Astromancer :joy::joy::joy:

Yes indeed. I ment runes not trap. It gets confusing sometimes when you play multiple decks.:grin:

The best wandering monster is the one played way latter than it would need to count. I like when I’ve got lethal and hit face and instead of taking a consecration or sap to the balls there’s a 3/3 like spit in the ocean getting in the way.

The other monster that I like is the one that prevents the enemy from attacking for a while (either because of fear of it or explosive) playing less minions (fireflies and stuff) than playing right into freezing or something like that
