Totems & Minions are different right?

Hi all,

New to the forum of heartstone.

And starting off with a question!

I played a normal game and used my trick totem in the first round (with free crystal card)

the totem casts a spell at the end of each turn, and as I ended my turn it casts the card Backstab : Deal 2 damage to an undamaged minion. and it attacks my totem…

This happend to me before but then there was no other minions on the field, this time there was. And it still aimed for the totem.

Aren’t totems and minions different when it comes to spells or this card?

Minions is a general term for anything with stats on the board.

Totem is a trait/type of the minion.

Minions can be:

Beast
Demon
Mech
Quilboar
Dragon
Totem
Elemental
Pirate
Murloc

As an example, there are some Shaman spells that target minions that have the “Totem” type (Sometimes known as a “tribe”) or gain bonuses when targeted towards them, such as Totemic Reflection, which gives a minion +2/+2 but if the minion has the Totem tribe, it also summons a copy of that minion after applying the buff.

Lastly, there are some minions that have an “All” type. This basically means they count as every type of minion. Usually they have the word “Amalgam” in their names somewhere so it’s sorta easy to figure which ones have it.
