We need a progression system

Playing for the sake of playing is fine and dandy but it’s sometimes not enough.
We need some kind of progession system that both incentivises playing in some ways as well as makes it worth the while.

Currently we only have a laughable 10g/3wins, which is more of a for your troubles coin, and the ladder system, which is virtually irrelevant.

Other Blizzard games have some periodic level gain with rewards (Overwatch), seasonal questlines (HotS, although it’s not that impressive) and season journeys with a series of quests of increasing difficulty and reward, as well as paragon (Diablo 3).

Idk man i need some dopamine in here.

You know that the definition of a progression system is the ladder? Just because you think its irrelevant doesnt change the fact that it is the progression system they have in place. They have daily quests and sometimes special quests also, to sum it up, you are asking for things already in the game.

coincidentally I thought about this earlier today. an experiment to make a really bland card game, but put in generous pack and resource rewards easily obtainable for playing.

the point of this would be to test the hypothesis that these days gameplay is far less important than gratification from rewards. in other words: it doesn’t matter if the game itself is actually enjoyable because the fun comes from rewards rather than gameplay.

You’d still need enough different cards: getting duplicates you can’t use, is not triggering my happy feelings.

yea I should have phrased this better: a card game with rather simple gameplay.

the art should be decent (just because it’s such an easy way to set itself apart from virtually any competitor except one) and yea, there should be enough cards.

Im talking more from a philosophical standpoint, as in I’d love the games played to be a means to an end.

You are right though, ladder IS a progression, just not for me, so i guess this topic is already heavily subjective, so sorry for that.

Ladder games are not special for me, they just are the way of playing the game, they are a means to no end, for enjoying the game per se is no longer so much of a goal in itself. I need more.

…yes, this surely sounds like my own opinion being projected onto everyone else xD

I would be happy only on profound stats at any time, as in OW

rly don’t care about free stuff (nice but not esential) but woul really looooooove to se a full stat of all my games, classes, decks, wr with each, wr for each card, everything, as I can be bothered to instal, sync and maintain a 3rd party soft on my phone and looooove stats (thats what 15 year old abusive relationship with MS Xcell does to you)

Well, your opinion is completely valid and I can present arguments for and against it.
On the one side, adding some sort of alternative progression like achievements, would make some people do activities, which are largely unpleasant for them. One example for me is the arena. I absolutely despise that place, but it was really bugging me, that I had a few legends under my belt and no 12 arena wins. This forced me to spend a considerable amount of time, which was largely unpleasant to me. After I got three 12-win runs, I have not stepped foot in the arena, because I hate it. In short, chasing those 12-wins felt like something I had to do, not something I wanted. An alternative progression might have the same effect.
On the other hand, I completely understand what you mean with the ladder not being enough. I have about 5500 ranked wins by now, and a lot of Legend / Wild Legend. So now I don’t really bother. I just play and sometimes finish on rank 2, 3 or whatever. I really don’t care about the rank anymore and I wish there was some other goal to chase.
From Blizzard’s point of view, they really have no incentive to add a progression system. Most of their audience are casual players, and something like that would not really appeal to them. So Blizzard has to invest their time and money into something, which the majority of the player base is not going to enjoy and it will not earn them more money. So I think they shouldn’t add such a system. If a player wants Hardcore progression and grinding, Retail and Classic WoW have plenty of that.

There’s a progression system in place for both ranked and arena. I’m fine with the progression and rewards for arena but I do think they should offer more to players who make it further up the ranked ladder and more specifically players who make legend and manage to climb high into the legend ladder with a special reward for those who make it into the top 10.

It doesn’t have to be packs since that isn’t really a reward for someone who’s made it that high in the legend ladder, they most likely already have the cards they need. But perhaps something like a slightly altered hero portrait or a card with different art work. Just to make it more rewarding to go high into legend.

I think same way we need more gold i spend some days playing and get all the gold you can so that means quest + 100g = 30 wins and finished it in pretty fast run and dont have anything to do… (grind more gold) or play for free for wins its meh… if you want spend more time in game players like that would appreciate that in other games you still get gold or that stuff but here its limited meh…
