The Year of the Dragon is starting very soon and thus the Year of the Mammoth sets are about to rotate out as well. With that rotation we’re naturally going to lose not only cards but deck entire archetypes as well.
So, as the title asks, what deck archetypes you’re going to miss the most? And which ones the least?
I personally will be missing Spell Hunter the most. I found the idea of a Hunter deck that technically had zero minions in it as a very interesting and cool idea. It was a very unique archetype and playing against it is very different compared to not only other Hunter decks but all current decks in Standard in general. I also remember how in most card reviews and shortly after Kobolds & Catacomb’s release people were crapping on To My Side! and Rhok’delar because they didn’t think they were good enough to make the archetype viable (and I think it was Emerald Spellstone that truly made the deck viable). I played the deck back then despite that, so I guess I had this underdog mentality as well.
As for the deck that I’m going miss the least… Taunt Druid. Screw that deck! Taunt wall after taunt wall after taunt wall with Hadronox combined with Witching Hour and Carnivorous Cube. Easily the most unfun deck I have ever encountered.
I can’t wait for Odd mage, multiple Dk-Hunter, wall & clone priest, as well as all versions of combo druids to go away. Seriously- F combo. I’m sick of it. it’s 60% of ladder right now.
I’m going to miss Odd paladin as it’s my main deck, or just paladin in general. RIP Steed, Righteous protector, stonehill defender.

I was about to, actually. But then I remembered Taunt Druid and that is easily the most unfun and frustrating deck I have ever had the displeasure of playing against. At least I can deal with Odd Paladins relatively well.

Missing?
Murloch Warlock Zoo
the best and most fun Aggro Deck i played i think
Struggled against Midrange Hunter a Bit but on my lvl i destroyed Odd paladin and many others.
Decent matchups against many decks
Even won more than lost against odd warrior and Odd mage.
Also priest is beatable and i won a few Games AFTER they played coin masshysteria on 4
I mean the deck will be doable after rotation but not the list i made so it will be interesting on what i can make work then.
Miss the least? Every deck which wincondition is suriving until the opponent dies first.
Mostly the pre nerf Taunt Druids and Wall Priest right now.
I mill miss most Un’Goro card design and least the bad card design that was hero cards and odd/even decks
I’ll miss Tempo Rogue, as I wasn’t able to experience the deck fully due to some cards missing from my collection (Gral, Face Collector).
I won’t miss Big Spell Mage, that deck can go suck on a fat one. Oh and Deathstalker Rexxar, that one too.

I played tempo rogue in a few different versions to decent results bit none of those used facecollector or the Shark.
If its just the archtype you want to test you absolutly can do that. If its a specific Version than i absolutly understand you

I will miss nothing.
That said, I will try standard for a while after rotation, as it will bring the biggest gap between standard and wild of all 3.

Friday our family discussed what we are going to miss after the rotation. Surprisingly everybody will miss nothing! We all hate Baku, Genn and the rest. In fact we find Hearthstone very boring. We asked our neighbors. They all agreed. This weekend we are all playing chess, poker and bridge. Maybe we finally have realized something.
There are lots of cards that I extremely happy to see leave, but no decks in particular.
The one deck I’ll miss is my Odd Shuddoom deck. Everything else I can play a variation of in wild, but the deck is already sketchy at best in standard so will just get destroyed in wild. I guess it’s more frustrating because the only core card to the deck that’s rotating is Baku, but hey maybe Shaman will get some good odd cards and I can make an improved version for wild…running 29 standard cards
those decks are the ones that are worth it, believe me, I had a 28 standard cards burn mage with 2 ice lances that made the whole deck, it was great
Meh, typically I beat nearly all the “standard” decks but lose to anything more refined. Might just be the fact that I know all their cards and they have to spend time mousing over mine that gives me the edge, over my deck being better, but I’ll take it
Maybe, but now, who’s gonna know what cards are in a deck made by me/you? ;))
None of it. I came back from a long break and thought standard was balanced as opposed to wild… basically they’re both cancerous, standard more so because unlike in wild your deck can’t have as many answers.
All the top standard decks belong in wild… terrible year.
Glad to see the back of odd paladin and odd warrior, the two extremes of the spectrum. Odd paladin has been far too strong aggressively for too long. For a deck to be consistently among the top tier decks for 3 seasons is something should have been addressed a long time ago in my opinion. No deck should be that strong for that long.
Odd warrior, in the same vein, is far too strong defensively and the only reason it’s not more popular on the ladder that I can see is that its a very slow deck and most people don’t want to be regularly playing games that take 20-30 minutes to win.
Other honorable mentions that I’ll be glad to see the back of: DK Rexxar, Carniverous Cube, Hadronox, Emerald Spellstone, Diamond Spellstone, Spectral Cutlass, King Togwaggle,
Cards I will miss or that I think were pretty cool cards: Skulking Geist, Arcanologist, Gluttonous Oozre, Tar Creeper, Defile, Twilight Acolyte, Unstable Evolution, Amethyst Spellstone, Rin the First disciple, DK Anduin (yes I know I’m going to get boo’d for this one
)
It’s been a long time since I hated a particular deck and there haven’t been too many: Quest Rogue, Pirate Warrior, Jade Druid, and most of all Secret Paladin. So no, I couldn’t name a deck leaving standard that I really want to see gone. Wall Priest is quite annoying, but we’ll have to live with that for a little longer ***.
There are a couple of individual cards that I won’t miss at all, though. First and foremost: Keleseth, the T2 game decider, designed for the single purpose of not letting a balanced game happen. Spiteful Summoner and Fungalmancer. Baku, of course, but more because this card was bad for the diversity of the game than for any other reason. I actually liked playing odd Paladin and Mage myself.
And what will I miss? I’m with Mandatar here. We don’t lose anything. I’ll play a lot more wild, I guess.
*** EDIT: Oops, just realized Diamond Spellstone is rotating out, too
Yep, without diamond spellstone wall priest is pretty much dead
