Whizbang type cards

Here’s a discussion purely for fun and most probably casuals players. So probably not that interesting for the most of the playerbase, but still here we go!

I have to say, i love Whizbang, and even Zayle is kind of a cool card. I like the idea of having a single card offer you a variety of decks that are fun to play, not too strong or too weak, just for the casual fun (and for new free to play players i suppose). And so i really have hopes that in the future we’ll see other cards just like that to have some random fun and enjoy simple games here and then. Zayle i haven’t played it that much, not a big fan of the decks it offers, but Whizbang really makes me have a lot of fun, even now in wild i still play it and enjoy myself casually (and that i didn’t expect).

And i was hoping and thinking: wouldn’t it be cool to have other cards like that, that offered maybe some specific archetype? For example a Whizbang card that offers Quest Decks, or maybe tribe decks (es. Elementals, Murlocs, etc…), spell decks (i really loved to play Spell Hunter back in the days) and so on. I would really it, it would make the game really fun and interesting for casual play, and help probably new players.

What do you guys think? Like those cards? Ever play them even just for fun? Like me hope or would like others to be made in the future?

I personally hate them…but I think it’s a great idea

A lot of people like those cards and it’s a great way for newer players to try out cards they don’t have or even help veteran players to some degree…although having a 1/18 chance to get the deck you wana test sounds like agony

I share that hate. At the beginning i wasn’t much convinced about Whizbang when it came out, but then i tried it and i actually had a lot of fun. There is the fact, with Whizbang at least, that yeah, every expansion most of the decks change and there are those you don’t like and you can’t sadly choose. I remember not liking Galakrond Warlock, but it was one of the decks that kept coming, but with Whizbang i discovered that i actually liked Dragon Druid.

I can understand why they don’t let you choose, cause otherwise you would never build that deck, therefore craft the cards or buy packs, but just buy these cards and choose the decks you want for free. But as you said, it is actually helpful for new players from what i heard, didn’t expect that.

And that is why i don’t play much Zayle, cause the decks it offers are not super interesting or great in my opinion. That is actually one of the reasons i’d like new ones: if one of them has a type of deck or mostly decks you don’t like you just don’t craft/play those and chose between others.

Well for me it’s the fact that my favourite thing in the game is deck building, so these cards are literally a negative for me

Yeah, seeing your posts on the forums i’ve notice you love deck building. Would be strange, since that is actually one of the main focus of card games and that is something i like, but i know people just love to copy-paste for high winrate decks these days. But i’m even a very undecided guy, and one thing i like in many things in life is to overcome challenges, like playing decks not mine but given and try to win or make it work anyway. So even if i have my decks i don’t mind just switching to casual, or even remain in ranked, and be like “you know what, let’s try Whizbang and see what he gives me”.
So indeed these are not meant for you my friend haha but i appreciate your open mind in the first comment and realize how there are different types of players, as newcomers to the game/genre. My best friend started recently to play and trying some pre-made decks helped her build her first ones and understand a little better how the game works.

As someone who enjoys making their own deck, even if I dont use him that often I like whizbang, helps try out new decks and better understand how new expansion cards are meant to be played, but I mainly like it because it what kept my friends playing hearthstone as there not good at making their own deck and started enjoying the game less and less since whizbang went out (mostly because whizbang made their games against my decks somewhat fair)

Zayle on the other had I completely dislike as it doesnt update, had really bad decks which tried a theme but never had enough support for it (like quest warlock that only had plot twist to support it) and also the fact it was a reward and it was a really bad reward, I really would rather dust it

Yeah, Zayle is really bad hahaha played it a few times to try all the decks it offers then just left it, really boring/bad decks. And since it’s a reward it’s not that easy to obtain for many, like my friends, so even if it was good for them it’s a little bit harder to obtain.
And one of my friends too started to lose interest in the game after Whizbang went out, reason why i would like Blizzard to add something new. Or even just maybe put Whizbang like a classic card so that it’s always available in standard, cause even if in Wild it still uses the suggested decks for standard. But who knows, seeing how it got positive feedback maybe they’ll do something similar once again.

One thing I’ve actually had going on in my head was what I like to call “Partial Whizbang” card ideas…

You choose what are essentially “packages” you’d see in adventures based around certain themes, pile up a few of them and make a deck that way. I like to refer to this idea of mine as the “Emissary” mechanic.
These packages come in the form of 3 Mana 2/2 common minions.

Emissary of C’Thun: Your deck includes C’Thun (Unless your deck already has one) & some synergy cards! This card takes 5 spots in your deck.

Emissary of Kalimos: Your deck includes Elementals & some synergy cards! This card takes 5 spots in your deck.

Emissary of Alextrasza: Your deck includes Dragons & some synergy cards! This card takes 5 spots in your deck.

Emissary of E.V.I.L: Your deck includes Lackey generation & some synergy cards! This card takes 5 spots in your deck.

Emissary of Kil’Jaeden: Your deck includes Demons & synergy cards! This card takes 5 spots in your deck.

Yeah, I think the idea comes across by this point.

Wow Roga, that’s actually a really cool and new idea!
Are the “demons” or “dragons” or “synergy cards” always the same, or different every time? Still thou really nice concept, and thanks for sharing!

Concept: 10/10

Power level: 0/10

The thing you have to remember is that these cards at best give you the power level of the best deck, whereas the reality is that they are going to make your deck worse than it should be (assuming they obey deck building restrictions). Can easily make these 3 mana 4/4’s as they are essentially vanilla with a downside towards deck power. They’re basically making a budget meta deck.

Oh I know they ain’t powerful. That never was the point. Whizbang decks & Zayle decks weren’t ever really that powerful either. The point was to keep the spirit of the cards alive but also evoking some “adventure” deckbuilding as well.

As for the stats… Eh, those don’t really matter in the big picture. They could be anything and you’d likely not see them all that much. Certainly wouldn’t expect them to be able to swing a game by themselves even if they were discovered or randomly summoned by a Mountseller.
