Worth returning?

Hi.
I cant remember the last time I played Hearthstone. I havent done a lot in the game however, I’ve been recently playing MTG: Arena and a game called Eternal and got me thinking about Hearthstone again.

How is the game? Is it worth coming back?

come back I suggest buying 100 packs at first

Depends why you left in all honesty.

If you remember the standard/wild rotation cycle, you might be better off waiting until the next set comes to start off a new year and then have proper look back into it. Typically that’s been April, but the previous set came earlier than normal, so not really sure what the schedule is gona be.

Alternately, there’s a newish auto-battler mode called battlerounds, that a reasonable part of the player base has jumped to. Can try it out for free and it wouldn’t tale much effort to unlock the paid bit if you prefer it over constructed.

I’ll look into this battlegrounds then. Thanks

Hello Tanvar, and welcome back!

As suggested by Ixnay, battlegrounds would definitely be worth checking out if it wasn’t around when you last played.

There is also another brand new game mode called Duels, which is a Dungeon Run type PvP mode. Check out the details here:

We’re glad to see you back in the Tavern again, and hope you’ll enjoy your stay! Cheers!

In my opinion, Hearthstone is the best card game on the market by far. I have tried all the others at some point and there is no comparison.

Hearthstone is not without flaws though, the main one being the cost depending on which mode you will be playing. I mainly only play standard so each expansion if I want to stay competitive, the only option is to spend money. There are some cheap decks/classes which can perform well but I like to play lots of classes and lots of recipes so I need a decent card collection which doesn’t come cheap. I basically have to spend in excess of £90 each expansion now, I buy the mega bundle and the battle pass booster. That equates to £360 a year which makes Hearthstone the most expensive game out there.

The new battle pass system was atrocious when it launched but after consideration, Blizzard adjusted it and it is loads better so gold can be earned easily enough now, quicker then the old system.

It’s probably worth jumping in, feeling your way round and get a feel for the game again. There will be a new expansion and set rotation in a couple months (I think) so the game will be changing again soon.

Its so not worth it. The game is totally unbalanced. You can do now 73 dmg or get 15 cards from your opponent or summon a 8/8 taunt with shield what heals you also for 8 hp and only cost 3 mana. Etc etc etc

I think Ixnay has the best point in “why have you left originally?” The reason may still be valid, even though the game has changed. I think the only way to find out is to give it a try.

No, don’t bother.

I quit some time ago when all everyone played were these stale ‘make your enemy grab cards so they die from having too many’ or ‘copy powerful minion, destroy all minions, summon your dead minions and win’ decks.

Today I had a craving and installed the game again only to find out it’s even worse. I played against demons (forgot the class) that just endlessly resummon taunt minions, and forest dude (forgot the class) that barely does anything half the game, then puts down a ‘your cards cost 0 mana this turn’ to put down a +5 spell damage card, they clone that one multiple times, then use a card to gain mana crystals again and kill your full hp hero with 1-2 spells in one round…

I’m the type of player who likes to experiment but there’s no fun in playing against these annoying ‘meta’ decks. In addition to that if you haven’t played in a long time you barely have the cards to be ‘competitive’ and the enemy uses all these overpowered cards with new effects that you don’t even knew existed.

Sounds like you are playing Wild format.

Standard is the place to be friend, its a lot more varied. There are some annoying decks though. Warlock has a card that removes 5 of its opponents class and this happens twice in a game so its frustrating.

Hopefully you had more then two games to make a judgement that the game is not worth it.

I returned after a break and because of the cost, I dusted all my Wild cards and only play Standard. Its depressing that I had to make that choice but that’s Hearthstone - the most expensive game on the market if you want to play a wide range of decks.

Yes, I was playing Wild and played about 10 matches where I kept seeing the same few classes, decks and tactics so that reminded me of why I quit in the first place and it put me off immidiately.

As far as I remember Wild has the ‘newest’ if not all the cards and Standard has a selection which would also prompt me to change my decks (correct me if I’m wrong), and since I simply wanted to see what was ‘new’ in the game I thought I’d play that and not screw up my old decks. Didn’t expect to get steamrolled so hard though when these old decks got me to a decent high rank in ranked play and felt completely outclassed now.

I dont play Wild anymore as that format utilises all cards ever made and the decks will only change very slightly.

If you want a fresher game, standard is the format to play as the decks and cards change more often as new cards are added and taken away.

I would say that wild is harder to play but I am happy to be told otherwise. If you arent too put off by your recent experience, i would suggest playing standard and having a look at that mode. you will probably be missing a large chunck of cards but there are some cheap face hunter decks or demon hunter which are really competitive so you could try craft one and feel your way around.

I can honestly say the meta on standard is quite varied. I tend to be matched against a lot of different classes which is good as I don’t feel bored when playing. I still take some good beatings though but can hold my own. I play mage mainly which has suffered some horrendous nerfs which I will never forgive blizzard (you know what you done Blizzard) for and as a result mage has been struggling a bit but its still the most fun to play if you like your RNG hard and fast.

I would say that Wild is more varied  More cards, more options. But of course, Wild has its ugly decks. I would say that Wild is cheaper - as Jaguar says, decks do not change much.
Of course, a player can receive some bad beating in both modes. It just happens. But in overall, I find it easier to advance through the ladder in Wild.
