Someone in the higher ups should understand that game doesn’t need to be e-sport king to be financially successful. Just focus on making a good game, keep updating it with a small 20 member team pumping content every 6-9 months and it will pay for itself and more.

HOTS is one of my favourite games of all times! One of the things that really shocked me about it is the game is still being played today, 6 years after Blizzard announced its will to close the project. That should talk by itself! I really hope and ask for a HOTS 3.0 re-release.

Many new ideas can be screen for a follow up to this amazing game, but after years of playing (I play since the beta ) there is one thing I urge to implement no matter which road the development team will choose to undertake: GUILDS.

It is buffeling to me that a game designed around the idea of teams, friends to play with, has no organic way of bringing people together. Some of the people I knew didn’t even play because they loved the game, they did play because their friends were playing. When I started playing I was alone, none of my friends did play the game, so I had to make new friends in the game, but there is almost no way of doing that. What should I do, invite random people to join me in new games? spam in the general chat? I play in Europe, each Country has his own language and most people don’t speak english or can do that fluently. I needed to find people who could talk my language, but there is no indication of that in the profile. If I check someone’s profile I am overwelmed with stats about their games, their rank, how many times someone has played this map or this hero, but I can’t know what language he speaks. Yes I could ask, but generally people jump from one game to the next till they turn the game off, they don’t have much time to chat with strangers and I can’t wait 15min for them to finish the game they are in. I had to find a guild on Facebook! and it took years for the development team before implementing a voice chat in the game.

Now I ask, how is it possible the same company who makes WOW makes a team-based MOBA and forgets about the social aspect of the game? I can be a newcomer in WOW, any server, it doesn’t matter because the first thing I’m going to do is finding a guild and make new friends there. I don’t have to look for people on Facebook or Google because the game already gives me the means to get connected with people. You get into a guild ASAP then if it’s not the right guild for you someone there will point you the way to a guild who can do for you, but at least you start making new friends. How are we supposed to enjoy a strategy game like HOTS if most of the time we queue up with strangers who don’t even know what we play or can do and probably we won’t ever play together again? Ok, the game isn’t that big, but we will soon forget the nicknames of the people we played a ranked match with if we’ll ever bother to read them.

Guilds tend to form people, older members play with new ones and teach them strategies, give them helpful advices, you start playing with the same friends over and over and voilà you have a role. The fear of being overwhelmed by the complexity of the game (new heroes every now and then, new maps, new balance patches…) is shunned by the experience of the older members guiding you. Climbing up the ranks of the your own guild is much more rewarding then adding numbers your MMR: look, I started form scratch and now I’m the guild’s ufficial support! Playing with friends is much more catching for keeping people playing the game then giving them new quests to complete every day.

In conclusion, with my best wishes for the company to really invest in HOTS, I strongly suggest to implement a guild system in the game. A search page for guilds where people can find guilds based on the language of the guild members, the general rank of the guild, number of members… You send your request, you get a quick interview with someone in the guild to get accepted and there you go. You can also add special quests to complete for both the guild and their members like “play 3 games with at least 3 of your guild members” to get rewards both for you and the guild. Special mounts or skins only obtainable through the guild, skins for maps usable only when playing with guild members… Incentives to get people in guilds and disincentives for guilds to not keep growing and adding new members just for the sake of it.

I have many ideas for an eventual and most hoped HOTS 3.0, but I think the guild system is the most urgent, needed and most impactful of them all. Thank you and my best wishes for the game.

They did have a small patch recently…just resembled more like laying a **rd on top of some heroes and then left the game to collect more dust.
