Soaking or helping team in QM

When you’re in a QM match and both teams are 5v5 in mid lane for a good amount of time, is it better to stay and fight or go soak? Sometimes I go and soak and then everyone dies after.

Call for retreat, go soak, if they don’t retreat it’s up to them.

Endless fights are useless.

There are two main strategies on how to start a match.

Most of the times, teams meet up at mid lane and start a 5v5 level 1 team fight. They say in this way they can take early advantage on the enemy structure and they put pressure in the early game. Also, this helps heroes with active quests to make stacks (Kel’thuzad, Alarak, Cromie, Guldan, Jaina, and so on).

Sometimes, teams split up early (or even start already split) to soak all 3 lanes. In that case, people in mid lane facing an aggressive 5-heroes pushing should play passive and try not to die, maybe giving something in terms of structure health, waiting for their teammates to push the top and bot lane, forcing the reaction of the enemy team.
Maths of the storm says that in that moment (level 1) a hero kill is worth less than half a minion wave (if I don’t remember wrong).

Imho the best general strategy in early game is to avoid unneeded fights, clear the wave mid and then rotate to a free lane to cliear the wave, then back to the mid lane, clear the wave and so on. To grant 3 lane soaking before 10 should be prioritized over team fights, you can fight on the obj when it’s time. Of course, if the enemy team makes mistakes and extends with one member, you can try to pick the opportunity to make a kill.
On top of that, much depends on team compositions, map and enemy team.

Thank you! I had no idea an early kill was worth so little in terms of exp. This will definitely change the way I play.

If there’s anyone doing a quest “respect” the mid-brawl at start, just don’t “sunbathe” in it though… After first round of stuff is done, rotate for the exp

IF possible try communicate it through the first 30 seconds before gates open, something like this:

“Anyone took a quest ?, after mid brawl please go soak from other lanes ASAP pls” [press enter key]
“:gl” [press enter key again]

So yes, sometimes there IS a reason to do the brawl in mid even at the cost for a half or single minion wave (quests), just don’t do it for the 2nd wave though, like, there’s no point lol

Don’t lose exp; the moment the minions make contact go to the lane as unsoaked exp stacks over the game and they will have 10 while you have 9.

Depend on what role you play.
If You are the Tank or the support, than it is better to stay.
If You are melee dps/solo liner, than you should go on lines after 1st wave of minions in mid.

Actualy, 5v5 on mid have sense only in one situation - you have quest on 1st level - Kaelthas, Garosh etc. - or stacks to take on enemy heroes - Kel Thuzad/Jaina etc.
If Your team don’t have any quest to do, than brainless rumble in the mid line have no sense at all and usualy better is go directly into lines from the begining.

I had 70%-80% winrate in ranked from mid silver to around plat mainly because I have never went down mid to fight those dumb 5v5s. Go top, tell your team “You are 4 dont die”, “I am not there care mid” and give a few danger pings for good measure.

There were times I took 2-3 waves and 2 towers top before someone came to deal with me. At which point they usually come with less than 100% HP and I demolish the lane anyway.

Seems to get harder high plat / low diamond when people actually react to me being top much sooner.

Ok, I’ve checked it better.
There you can find all the maths about experience.

Base XP of a hero kill = (Level of the hero killed + 5) * 50 * DeathValueCoefficient

XPHeroKill = (1 + 5) * 50
At level 1, with a hero kill, you get 300 (and health and mana trade, and maybe counterkills, but also stacks, statisticks and so on)

Every 30 seconds a minion wave spawns on every lane on every map starting at level one the melee (frontline) minions are worth 70 XP apiece, the leader minion (the mage) is 62 XP and the ranger (backline) minions are 60 XP apiece.

A full wave is 452.

So a hero kill is not half of a wave but like almost 70%
