Why enemy chat is disabled and not optional?

I just realized it, never seen similar topic.

So why in the world it is not optional? For me, chatting in games is most important, and quite often yoloing with enemies is extremely fun.

So, just wondering if other people feel the same.

I’d love that. To congratulate, since I loose a lot. Especially after a long or epic game. Had a 45 minute game yesterday, would have loved to know what they thought about it.

I’d expect a 5000% increase in “Toxic Chat” Reports if that was enabled.

Sounds very factual and true those numbers. I concur.

And that is why we can’t have nice things kids.

TRUE… think about all that trolls

Because right now just typing and then getting angry team-mates reporting you Abusive Chat for no reason can get you silenced then suspended then banned.

What’s the point in turning enemy on?

People are already getting their feelings hurt by team mates telling them they should do X instead of Y.

Imagine how their feelings were hurt if someone on the enemy team said something like “have fun” at start of the match? Or heaven forbid, “GG” at the end of it?

Probably enemy chat is bad in this game due to culture of players afterall.
Still, optional means you can turn it off or on. So…

Ally chat triggers people too, why not remove it?

Feels like this game is designed for some snowflakes who’ve never played this kind of competetive games

Why not go back to League of garbage and enjoy all-chat there.

I never understood the logic of talking to the enemy team other than trashtalking or flame /rage at them.

Yeah i suggest you piss off to LoL and never crawl from that hole again , since this game is not competitive enough because we dont have “all-chat”

Ahahah, nice kid-rage

I’m playing LoL right now, on russian server(!!!) - no one flames from other side or causes toxicity. Only teammates can be a problem (just like here).

I have exclusively positive experience in talking to enemies, and mute right away people who start to flame. Problem of majority of people - they can’t use Mute button and try to proove someting to a troll. Same ego issues can be seen in Hots.

Its pretty much up to rank you are in. Low ranks are awful to play in. Same as here :stuck_out_tongue:

Heres the deal “adult scum”, if you’re even one.
You confirmed you play League of Losers.
How about just stick to that trash game and never come back to hots , with ur dumb ideas that nobody will care about?
Muted the topic, you’re a waste of time . More importantly, a typical League of Losers fanboi

I love how dude just ignores everything I said, and continues with aggression that he himself started out of nowhere

Not to mention, I play many games, moba isn’t even a priority  What if I’m Rainbow Six fanboi? <__>

Well, here we had an example, of why we don’t have common chat

Funny.

20chars.,.,.,.

Alpha and Beta testing had Allied chat AND Global Chat.
It was removed not because of trolling or toxicity although those were indeed factors but to prevent mistaken chats, there were many cases when people were on global chat and gave out situations such as “Help boss” etc.

I don’t think removal of this chat was necessary, but it happened and Blizzard doesn’t seem interested in bringing it back.

The possible solution was that to post in global chat you’d have to select it every time when you hit enter with a TAB to switch recipients but that would initially take too much time and focus and people would perform worse than they already were.

The removal of the chat was a big blow to the community back then, we often used global chat after the match to GG enemy team, despite the outcome.

Personally I think this would benefit the community to be able to GG enemy team after the match.

Now that makes more sense.

Of course, after a bunch of games you won’t be able to “accidently” press shift + enter instead of enter for you get used to it easily, but still makes sense.

You’d be surprised what we talked about in global chat

But lets leave it at that the mistakes happened XDDD
The removal under that pretense does indeed make sense. Though as I said, a small change and it wouldn’t be needed.

Technically there were even emotes allowed to be sent to enemy team like in Overwatch, I think at the state Hots is now, reintroducing global chat would make for a lot more community improvement and if the introduction was like I proposed, just force people to use tab to switch chat to global at every input, it would work out better. Back then HotS 2.0 was a distant dream Blizzard never even thought about.

I would like to see it here back, but I’m skeptical.

As someone who has participated in several Alphas and Betas for online multiplayer games, the community in those periods of a game are a lot smaller and more tightly knit than for released games (that don’t flop). Thus Alpha & Beta players are more inclined to be courteous towards each other and understand the limits of what can be said in good fun and what is abuse.

Once you go live and the game is a succes, the amount of players in the game starts making it a lot harder to figure out where the lines are for various players. Once the community gets large trolls start being able to hide more easily. And with enough players actual troll communities may spring up.

It is also much easier to dismiss other players as people with feelings once a playerbase grows large enough. I couldn’t find a study with a quick search, but several articles do point towards this being a naturally occuring effect and part of basic human psychology.

Not saying NO to this theory, but I personally felt Final Fantasy XIV playerbase in central places like Large Cities with hundreds of players and the chat not being abused at all. That was due to the rule enforcement that S-E initially performed to keep people as civil as possible. You can relax and talk about pretty much anything staying fairly polite and helpful to the rest. Of course people tend to forget or just behave badly but most of the time all you had to do was say in global chat “Excuse me but can you stop using that foul language ? It would be much appreciated! Thanks” and it tends to pipe down, whether because that someone just goes away or simply accepts it is another thing but it really does work. Even in guild chats you often get scolded by others to stop using bad language and it works.

The way I see it Blizzard was far too lenient about foul language that they caused high levels of toxicity themselves.
