40 minute queue time

In NZ. Just a bad day for Blizzard?

The DPS queue times are the worst thing to come with role q. As a tank main i enjoy having that stable 222 in comp, not worrying if we wil have a second healer, and so on, but they need to do something about the DPS wait times, it’s kind of ridiculous that we can get tank/support games in under a minute most times and DPS always takes over 5.

They need to divide up the huge DPS roster and make 3 smaller sub groups (idea by Miripaladin).

Breaking up the playerbase even more will just lead to further queue times.

Blizzard for the longest time said they didn’t want to do a Role Queue because queue times would be an issue.

The community continued to moan and say “we want this”.

After Blizz explored other solutions, including letting us find our own groups via the group finder, which people still moaned about.

Then they finally gave us role queue.

As someone who plays DPS, the queue times can be frustrating, but I wouldn’t trade role queue for faster queue times.

Played a game of Quick Play classic recently just to see how it went.

It was bloody awful.

Role queue was a positive change for the game, and the longer queue times are the price we have to pay for that.

If people do not like the queue times, they should consider picking up other roles to do their part for the community.

Watching streams became kinda pointless. Almost every streamer spends 50% of their time in game, 50% doing something else waiting in the queue.

They’ve obviously failed at making the tank and support roles equally appealing and fun to play as the DPS role.

Hopefully they’ll see this and release more and more tanks/supports that are more interesting to the average player.
Maybe even change some of the ones we have to make them less bland and boring.

Thats so easy to say though. Make them interesting. How? They copied the Medic from TF2, not interesting enough. Another support has everything - healing, damage, sustain, ridiculous escape and is played a lot. But apparently not interesting enough too? Tanks with absurd damage like pre-nerfs Sigma and Zarya yet they were not interesting? Tanks with mobility and the HP to not die instantly yet they are apparently not interesting too.

What do you want? Honestly

Well they did… brig was a fun support role… untill she was nerfed into the ground because of complaints from mainly the dps players…

Dva and hog were interesting tank rolls untill they were nerfed into the ground because of complaints from mostly dps players…

Perhaps if dps diddnt complain so much that “meh i cant play my hero because too much healz and tanking” then their would be more tank and support players shrugs

In my mind this all comes down to dps selfishness wanting everything their way and not caring what other people think… role Q is the best thing to happen to the game since launch… its not the best… but its better than 5 instalock dps players complaining about how their team sucks because there are no tanks or healers

When we had a support(Brigitte) who could go 1v1 vs heroes like Roadhog and Reaper and win, and a tank(Zarya) who outDPSed most DPS characters other than outliers like Bastion…I say nerfs were justified. Unless you want to argue that those 2 classes must have the same killing potential as the class made for killing.

Let’s call it how it is. Blizzard are the ones responsible for the sad state she’s in now. Anyone who remembers the horrendous season 10 debut of Brig will know how blatently OP she was, and everyone knows it was intentional because she came to push out dive. We know it. They know it. No Rally time limit? 5 second shield bash? It was just silly. Ever since that terrible release, she’s been gradually nerfed more and more. This is the price this game pays for this kind of balance philosophy. Which is to constantly keep changes things around to drive out any meta that lingers for too long and gets stale. At this point I think it’s just the nature of the game. I don’t think they can balance 30+ heroes to make it an even playing field. It’s just too hard in a game like this, so depending on who’s hot at the moment, that will dictate the most popular meta, and again if that lingers too long, nerfs will come. I hate it but what can we do.

Arguably it would be easier to balance if there were drastically more heros with overlapping abilitys… but again blizzard prefers to make genji another skin for that precious loot box money

40 minutes? I smell bs

They should let us choose multiple roles,
-If we were 4 guys on a group they should let 2 of us choose secondary role
-If we were 5 guys on a group they should let 1 of us choose secondary role…
and so on, this will shortens the waiting time…

Honestly the longest I’ve waited for any queue was about 5 minutes, no matter what role I was, but that was because I always queue up with five other friends of mine. I believe that most of the Long wait times is because you’re solo queuing for a game. I think they should find a solution to that (not sure how, but i’m sure someone on here has pretty good ideas on how to fix that, but I also think this is an incentive to Queue up with your friends  This game is a dumpster fire to play by myself (imo) anyway, and the only thing that makes it fun is playing with my friends. So yeah. Also what ever happened with that “search for groups” social option anyway? like I said I play with friends so I don’t normally use that feature, but i’m also not sure if it’s still around. Is it still around?

This only shows how horrible Blizzard are at retaining their playerbase. If my only hope not only for a good game but also for a shorter queue time is going with a group I’d simply save myself the trouble and not play. This was not the case before the stupid role lock by the way, they are deliberately pushing away the solo players with these changes and we all know that there wont be a solution for that because everyone wants to be free to carry instead of depending on their team for success.

It’s not so much about what I want and more about what the average player would want.

The strength of character doesn’t determine wether they’re intersting and fun to play or not. At least it’s not the only thing that does so.
Even if a lot of people play it, it may not be because it’s fun but because it’s strong (overpowered).
So if you’re not playing that character you’re putting yourself at a severe disadvantage.

But I’ve been preaching about adding more depth to heroes for the longest time now.
More highs and lows for all characters.

So instead of repeating my usual rant, it could be worth putting balance and gameplay aside for a second and also take a look at how it FEELS to play certain heroes.

How does it feel to swing around Reinhardt’s giant hammer for example? Personally I feel like I accidently picked up the inflatable version of it from a carnival.
(OK. It’s not that bad. I’m exaggerating to get my point across).

Compare that to how it feels and sounds to draw Hanzo’s bow and landing a well placed arrow on your target.
You can hear the creaking as you draw an arrow, the sound it all makes under the tension being applied.
Then the satisfying release and the whistling of your arrow followed by that “meaty” impact sound, possibly with the added dink noise if you landed a critical hit.

Now, imagine if they changed the animation on Reinhardt’s swings a bit. Adding more speed to it with very slight partial pauses (or something akin to it) when you hit somebody to really highlight the impact.
Maybe having it be slow at the very start only to be instantly sped up with the rocket boost, giving it that burst-of-power feeling rather than holding yourself to the speed limit, cruising about.
And of course, add matching sound design to it all.

Good animation and sound design and all the little details that go into that can make a big difference in how good/bad it feels to play a game.

-(I’m not saying my ideas are perfect, they’re literally just something I brainstorm on the spot to give an example of what I’m talking about. My opinions are subjective).-

You cant be serious. His sounds and his voice lines are very loud, changing them a bit will make him more popular and more DPS would want to play him? This is honestly weird.

I think what you mean is crit sounds. So in a nutshell you want him to be able to crit with his hammer…and this will somehow change his pick rate.

I am not talking about volume here. You missed my entire point.

And I barely mentioned the sound a critical hit makes so I’m not sure how you thought that my entire post was about that.

Obviously, sound and animation alone does not make a character interesting or not; but it’s an important step in that direction.
The reason why I didn’t go into class balance and changes, in yet another thread, was because I figured it could be interesting to look at something that isn’t being discussed or looked at as much.

Its a shame you are not part of the development team then.

I found it alot faster to find a group as DPS then queue, just a suggestion not a fix :+1:

40 mins on what level? for me the worst was 18 mins in comp queue as DPS. You know you can always alt+tab and do something…
