Account suspention

I have had a bit of a rough time of late and sadly that has spilled into my OW game play.

I got silenced from chat/voice twice recently for my “toxic” chat. I have had no suspensions etc since getting OW back in 2016.

I then, on the 26th September got an account suspension. I got no email about this I just noticed I could not log into the game.

I contacted support and got this response:

“I’ve gone ahead and performed my own investigation here and determined that the action was indeed accurate and no signs of a compromise was found. Because of what was found and verified, we will not be removing the action at this time.”

Ok fair enough. It was 14 days.

Once back on I stayed out of chat for a little while. I would say GG now and then but thats it. I started to chat a little bit more over the coming weeks but I nver said anything bad to anyone and yet I have gotten another suspention, but this time for 30 days!

As far as I know I did nothing. Support tell me I am in breach of the code of conduct and after reading it I cant see how I did.

But I will add that the section saying players can not say anything offensive or vulgar is out right stupid. Thats such a subjective thing. Something offensive to me could be normal for someone else.

I tried asking support for some help on this and tell me what it is I said but I just get the same lazy ass copy paste script fom them saying they are upholding the decision.

Totaly rediculus. So is this game a “Report a player for whatever and they get banned even if they did nothing but they got a report so bye bye game”

We should not be standing for this. And the playerbase needs to speak up about actions like this that make no sense.

Someone like me who was toxic, made changes to do better and be better and then get banned anyway! Whats the point? I might as well be toxic if im going to get banned anyway.

I imagine the next time will be a perma ban so when my account is back in 30 days im disabling chat and voice all together. Bye bye team play. Well done Blizzard.

My general thoughts when I read stories like is “what have they missed out”.

This would suggest that you’ve said somethings other people would find offensive.

You have to remember, you don’t know these people, best to just not bother with that stuff.

If it’s commenting on other game play. That is also under the toxic banner.

I do think that support should verify what caused the silence, just so we can learn from it. But it could be that the person/algorithm that activates the punishment does not need to log that information into your account details.

If that is the case then the person replying to the appeals can’t know what you said/did, so they can only give a copy paste answer.

I usually stay quiet unless the chat in the game is obviously playful/positive.
Sometimes praising enemy team’s good tactics or hilarious lucky plays. (Like two people managing to kill each other at the sme time.

So if I said something like “Hey Anna, Can you switch to Moria?”… bannable?

Jesus…

But the offensive part, someone could say that they are offended by “gg”… report it and then enough reports later they get a silence or even a ban.

Yes and no.

Can they report you for it yes. If you suggested a comp and plan then no. But just “can you switch” yes.

Is that one incident going to get you banned. No.

If you do it game after game, getting reported multiple times… Then, boom, you get actioned.

So to go back to this, what you missed out was that you’re often annoying people with request to swap and telling them what to play.

Also, who wants a Moira over an Ana… Ana is one of the stronger supports. Moira just isn’t.

Which makes me think you’re telling them to swap because you think they are bad… So again, the reports are fine.

Maybe we shouldn’t, but the playerbase are ignored anyway.

Certain parts are. Probably with good reason.

Sadly the report system is automated, if you get reported enough you can get punished automaticly. Wether its a fair report or not.

And there plenty of overly sensitive people wich would concider you asking the to switch as toxic. As they take it like some personal insult as if they are not good enough with the character they play

I get told to swap a lot, as a Ball player it is something you have to deal with.

Being asked to swap - fine
Suggesting a comp to swap to - fine
Being told to swap with out any suggestions - toxic
Being told to swap cause they think you’re bad - toxic (and usually wrong)

If she was getting dove on and repeatedly killed, you could have added that “moira has more mobility” and thus survivability.

Or you can just add a “please”.
And not repeat yourself if they don’t reply or if they say no.

if you just keep repeating yourself it’s enough to get reported for as either toxisity or spam.
It could very well be that the person has their chat turned off, so it’s not worth repeating yourself.

Agree those people exist but v

As said we don’t know who are we playing with what age? mental issues? bad days ? we can’t tell, But when you with your friend you can be as you wish, Cause they know you.

I’ve not left anything out.

As I said, with my last ban I was indeed an ahole in chat.

I’ve had this account since launch and
I’ve got a lot of time, skins etc put into it and I dont want to lose that.

This time I honestly do not know what got me banned for 30 days.

My fear is that any reports by players are just counted and once they hit some magic number action is taken by an automated system. Weather that be chat silenced for 3 days or 2 weeks etc or suspended for 14 days etc. With blizzard support either unable or unwilling to do anything about it even where reports are false or just for saying GG and a player you rolled is mad so they report you.

I have another account for OW2 and I think I might test this theroy. I only got it during my last ban so no real loss if something happens to it.

Over the next 30 days during my main account suspention I will ask players to report me for text chat and see what happens. I wont say anything else in chat other than asking for a report.

Will be interesting to see if the account gets silenced for if the account get suspended. And if it does, what will bliz support have to say about it. Will they copy pasta the code of conduct or will they look into it and see that nothing was said to warrent a ban.

me too i got a band and i swear i didn’t say any thing toxic or bad im just saying “GG” “EZ” like the other players i had so many troubles to get my skins and now? im suspensed now ?!

Ez can be intrepreted as toxicity as you are technically flaunting how easy the other team was to beat.

It’s literally you saying “easy”.
We know that happens in games, but you don’t need to gloat about being matched against people that weren’t on your level.

I personally don’t report those anymore, unless you spam the “ez” message several times, at which point it’s spam.

A good rule is also to not post messages and letter combinations you don’t know the meaning of.
(Good example is also generational divides, like the infamous “lol” which can mean “lots of love” to older folk, but us younger than 60 year olds only knew as “laughing out loud”)

i dont think this is toxic imo. Its just not very clear what they want you to play instead. Wich exactly brings up the point i mentioned before. Some people seem to take things as toxic or an insult too quickly

Well its only taken a few days but I have found that Blizzard do take action against reported players for just about anything.

I started reporting people for text chat for anything that could be taken as “offensive”.

I reported for “gg ez” and got a notification that action had been taken regarding the reported the next day.

I then reported someone for saying “you suck” and got the same notification that action had been taken later that day.

As a test I reported someone for saying “My team is pretty bad” and also got the same notification.

The first two reports make sense but the last one is not that bad at all imo.

Maybe these people all had other reports and mine just added to it.

I want to test reporting someone for just saying “Hello” or “Hi” to see what happens but I don’t want someone to end up with a suspention or chat silence because of the report.

I may ask someone on my friends list who does not play often if I can test that with them.

It does appear that ANYA report = action regardless of what is said. It is only when someone appeals the action is the chat log looked at. I could be wrong of couse but so far that is where the evidence is pointing.

100%. There’s nothing toxic about saying “switch please”

There have been cases of overwatch league players being banned for cheating because people would spam report them, so there really is no doubt that the entire report system is automated and without human reviews. It goes off based on the amount of reports even if you actually did nothing bad.

Account boosting is the cheating they’d most likely get banned for. Happens in Valorant and CoD too.

They also use automated volume reporting because it offers a safety net. Yes you can be false flagged, but that many reports means something is up.

It’s such an awful lazy system.
