I’ve recently been having a problem where all sound, including sound from other apps/programs, cuts out as soon as a match starts. Everything is fine up until I join a match (in the menu, queue, etc.) but once I do I can’t hear anything.
After I change some audio settings or sometimes seemingly at random I can hear all game audio except teammates talking even though I see their chat icons appearing in the top left.
I’m 99% sure it’s an issue with either my sound settings or a program running in the background because it worked fine again last night and without me changing anything today it went back to not working. I’ve also double checked my in-game settings and tried repairing the game in options.
I currently have “allow apps to access your microphone” on but sometimes turning it off allows me to hear all game audio except teammates’ talking, so I think there might be an issue there. When I join a game and the sound cuts out an icon appears in the bottom right saying “Overwatch is using your microphone” which I don’t think was there before the issue started happening. But even when I turn it off and the game audio works I can’t hear my teammates.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Heya TankyRadish,
What headset are you using? Certain bluetooth headsets/configurations experience issues like this due to how the technology works. One of my colleagues posted some fantastic information on this here.
I have this exact problem. My sounds cut out all across my computer as i find a game. Not sure what to do either. Already attempted changing headphones and adjusting settings but had no effect.

I had the same problem. Fixed it by installing latest realtek drivers.
Just toggle ‘Team Voice Chat’ and/or the similar sound settings related to game chat. Fixed it for me.
Read through all the help from support. Too technical, so I just took a shot in the dark. BUT, why do I have to put in all this work? Resembles streamers constantly toggling ‘vsync’ to fix frame issues. Wish I could just play a game without troubleshooting ruining the immersion…

Go to Sound settings in the game options and disable any Auto-Join. I noticed that when I entered a game and exactly when I joined voice chat, my sound turned off. The above fixed that.
I am using Tozo A1 bluetooth earbuds and I have the same problem, but it does the same when I am even in skirmish or training arena. This is downgrading my experience a lot, please, someone fix this or give some tips. thanks
