Unless they go full battle Mercy with Valkyrie you will never see a Mercy get Play of the Game,
This wasn’t a problem back when she had her old Ultimate (which wasn’t the best but allowed Mercys the recognition).
Maybe if Mercys could bank on their healing targets eliminations,
Moira, Lucio, Brigitte, Ana and Zenyatta all have methods of banking on their teams eliminations, whereas Mercy only gets measly assists even when she may be the only reason the team is alive.
The point being that Mercys can never get anything more than gold healing unless they stop doing what they are meant to be doing (healing) and start just wailing on the enemy team (usually with no luck unless bubbled or nano’d)
Same goes for other heroes too really. Ana has been struggling with getting PotG too. Basically, if you’re not playing a hero who kills other heroes then you’re not getting PotG.
Another issue is the on-fire rating. Mercy has among the lowest on-fire rating of all healers. That is because the algorithm used to calculate on-fire rating is still calibrated to when Mercy was doing instant rezzes, and rez is a primary contributor to Mercy’s on-fire rating…
Basically Blizzard don’t put more effort into Mercy than is necessary to get her stats balanced. That means tweaking a few numbers from time to time. I don’t think they particularly care about quality of life issues or how she plays as long as she’s balanced. For that I despise Blizzard but I don’t expect much from the company I hate anymore.
The algorithm seems to value killing and ressing so I find that POTGs usually involve those two things, almost exclusively when I’m ulting. But ya, if Mercy gets POTG then the other players must have been sitting on their hands the entire match because it’s easy to take it with a press of the Q on most heroes.
The moral is, POTG is meaningless.
