Another day, another smurf

Seems like the only thing to hope for is getting the best smurf. Level 7 soldier with 33 elims, 15 rocket kills. Fun.

Or they might just be really good at playing FPS games…

Fair point, might’ve just been matched with the Maradona of Overwatch at the beginning of his career!

Can someone explain smurfing to me? Matchmaking seems to make them climb very fast. Do they go on losing sprees? Buy new accounts every couple of weeks? What for?

I played on my nephews PS version and i climbed about 1000 rating in a matter of maybe days

they either buy a low level account, or get there manually via “Soft throwing or even hard throwing”

they will play bastion, or torb and “try” but lose hundreds of matches on purpose… then, they go in and one out of a couple of games they switch to their “main” hero most often genji, tracer, widow, or hanzo… something “high skill” or… “unstoppable” by low skill people and proceed to kerb stomp the enemy team unimpeded…

this is a “Smurf”

It depends, if the account is brand new they’re going to climb fast since their MMR is still being fixed (they’ll gain like 50/100 SR per win, and lose about the same), if the account is high level (or played a lot of games in general) the SR gain will be lower, so an account that is at 1000 SR could take about 40 games to get to 2000 SR for example, the SR gains will still be higher than average since SR gains below diamond are dictated by personal performance.

Also yes: people smurf using losing sprees, they lose on purpose since bronze accounts are more worth than gold/plat accounts nowadays.

Well, this company isn’t going to do anything about it. So it’s unfortunate that we have to play such game with smurfs, throwers and cheaters
