Another edpi question

When I google ‘dpi for tracer’ the first result that comes up recommends 400 edpi. With the 2.5 sense and 1600 dpi that someone uses who responded to my previous question about this the other day, that would be 4000 edpi. Even with 4000 edpi, I’d say a full sweep of my mouse from left to right turns my character about 30 degrees, if that, which makes it impossible to turn my character anywhere near how quickly I want to be able to. This gets more confusing the more I look into it.

I found 25 sense and 1600 dpi gives me the ability to turn my char as quickly as I like to be able to, but this is 40,000 edpi, 100 times what the first result recommends, so not sure what to do.

I this this really depends on the person… I think pro players play with somethibg between 5000 and 10000 edpi. But again that really depends on each person…

You may need try different settings (you can use training range for that) and chose the one that fits you better.

Personally I play with with 20 000 edpi.

Oh ok thanks. Seems weird that the first result I get on Google recommends 400 if pros are playing 5 to 10k. That’s a huge difference, but ok.

I’ve been playing on 40k edpi, because this gives me a speed of turning that is high enough for me, but I may try 10k since this is within the bounds you said pros go with, to see how this feels. I feel like my aim could be better, hence why I sought advice.

When you play on low sense/DPI, quick turning becomes a skill of its own. Especially those quick 180’s, those become quick flicks and its definitely possible but exponentially harder with your particular mouse the lower you go. With your mouse you might be aiming for the impossible if you go too low.

But generally speaking I can’t emphasize enough that this is a skill of its own and requires effort to learn but the good news is, it’s something that comes naturally after a while.

I’ve recorded some footage for you: here’s a Tracer 180 on 1600DPI, 3.2 ingame sensitivity on a 71gram mouse (Razer Viper 8K). I’ve also included footage from my hand/mouse movement. Unfortunately the camera and hand footage doesn’t really capture the essence of what I’m trying to convey here well, but the gist is that it’s a quick flick with an ammount of speed and force into it which makes me able to do the 180 on low DPI/ingame sensitivity.

Not that I always get it a 100% right, I don’t play Tracer that much  Also, I play my main hitscan characters (Ashe, Soldier and sometimes Widow) slightly lower on 2.44 ingame sens.

That is not true, at least not for the hitscan players. Maybe the Mercy, Winston, Rein etc players. The hitscan players are around 4000 eDPI and nowhere near what you mention. That high wouldn’t work anyway with hitscan. Look up some player settings like: Ans, Dafran, Danteh, Profit, Viol2t, Iddqd, Kai, Profit. They’re all considerably lower. Maybe they play slightly higher on Tracer but definitely not that high.

Pro players use different eDPI, DPI and sensitivity settings, because at the end of the day, it’s all about individual preferences.

However. they mostly stick to being within or below the 1600 DPI max setting with just a select few outliers going up to 1800 DPI.

Here’s a link to what some of the pros use, including their mouse and more.

(remove space between //)

eDPI is DPI x ingame sensitivity. Most pro hitscan players sit around 4000 eDPI.

I know what eDPI is. Why are you replying to me? Reply to the OP by clicking the reply button on their post not the last post in the thread.

Ok thanks for this and thanks all.

I wonder if a 17 button Razer mouse would work for me. I used to have one before the Corsair and I do remember its being lighter.

Hey, as a WoW player, I just don’t like using keys: I’m used to buttons. I prefer just to keep the keyboard for strafing and/or moving forwards and then have mouse buttons for abilities and shooting. I don’t really want to readjust. Also I’m used to this mouse now but ty for your help. If I really wanted to go hard on this I think the best bet would be to buy a 17 button Razer, as Razer’s are lighter in general.
