In my last comp game it said the range was from silver four to plat four and somehow there was a masters four in the lobby. One team had all of the higher rank players while the other team didn’t. How is this fair and balanced match making?
Today loss in a row 10 games and decided to quit. Matchmaking is broken
So they were masters on a role they weren’t playing I assume?
But silver 4 is about 1800-1900 SR in old ranks.
Plat 4 is 2800-2900.
In pretty much the whole of overwatch, grouping has always been 1000sr max range. So this has always been possible.
They increased the range you can match with + the engagment optimized matchmaking.
So matchmaking is 50/50 to get dimaon or gold players on your team.
Engagement based isn’t a thing and they not increased the range.
The only recent change was open queue where solo players, groups and wide groups are all in one pot now.
They’ve said that 95% of games are within their acceptable range.
50/50 isn’t a match making thing. It’s just a natural end point of reasonable match making and no increase in skill level over a period of time
People just have to accept, sometimes matches are going to suck. Far too often sadly, but that’s on us.
It’s the players that choose to cheat, to throw, to be toxic, boost player and so on. And it’s out gameplay mistakes and decisions that cause onesided and snowbally games. It’s a problem in all mass multiplayer games that requires ransoms to play together.
Open queue is really bad now, not uncommon to get Bronze to Plat or even Diamond ranges in the game
and at the end of the game they don’t even have the “wide” modifier so you still lose at least 20%
it’s dumb and IDC if they say it’s even because “there’s a bronze on both teams” in that game that doesn’t make it any better
Wrong. On my smurf account i can reach GM in a day and i get matched with insane people, on my old one i get matched with actaul morons.
There is engagement optimisation and its painfully obvious.
Prity much same expirience.

I think once they get a replacement for Jeff matchmaking will be one of the first things they address, as it seems to have been broken for years at this point.
Jeff is the reason OW2 development was scuffed. So they replaced him with someone who’d not be a hindrance. Whether that was a good or bad move is your own opinion.
Deffo for OW2.
The matches felt fine in OW.
