I have a number of friends who only play competitive for their placements at the end of the season to keep their GM or Master rank which seems very silly to me since its obvious Blizzard doesnt want this, hence the decay system.
I really havent seen anyone say anything about this but it just seems like a cheap way to keep your rank without playing.
Well I rush my placement at the end bc I never feel comfortable enough but don’t want a empty season in my profile.
Since I’m just a plat boi I can’t abuse this from the deranking.
But to be completely honest with you, It’s better to do this than let yourself derank to 3000 and wreck havoc as a GM. I guess the mmr would help there to still outbalance things but just think about:
One of the deranked high mmr players is dps player. And your equal to that mmr is a top 500 deranked to 3000 mercy one trick.
I don’t want to say that mercy couldn’t manage the team to victory
I hope for more users to reply to this it’s interesting.
I guess a good fix would be to remove the placements after the verry first time and just start the next season where you ended. = insta derank for higher players as soon as the season starts.

I agree that removing the placements would be the most reasonable choice, also youre right about a GM dropping to diamond and then just wrecking havoc, but the thing of it is that type of player would just get a smurf.
The people who dont play for the entirety of the season just do it to keep a rank they most likely dont deserve. Even if they to get deranked they shouldnt be able to destroy since they havent played as much and should be out of practice.
Lol? Grandmaster who wasn’t playing this game for year still gonna farm diamonds/masters. This is just how this game works.
Unless this guy got to gm with brig.

Well you can easily get a high rank lets say when mercy was op and you only know how to play mercy. After the nerf when Mercy isnt as good anymore in high level comp do you still deserve to be that rank after a year?
