A guy in my previous game basically threatened to rape half the team to death and said he could get our persoanl information if he wanted to. He went afk and came back a minute or so later and said my full name then another guys full name and another. He was angry at this point and started harassing the girl on the team. It peaked when he said HER full name then he said an address which made her go quiet and then she just left and she never came back.
My take on this situation is that this guy is legitimately dangerous and there are flaws in blizzards systems that allow these types of people to find our linked information to a disturbing degree. This doesnât affect me much as a guy who can defend himself and isnât worried about some degenerate coming to his house to do harm. But in the inevitable cases of children and vulnerable individuals that cross this douches path he could actually be a threat and that shouldnât be taken lightly. I reported the guy as i should but will a ban really stop this guy from following through with threats like this? I doubt it. We need a way to send in video footage to be reviewed by people (maybe like overwatch from csgo?). Because a whole team saying to report a guy like this leaves him laughing saying a 100 reports wont get him banned (Confidence like this is either a bluff or its from experience and knowing that maybe 1/10th of the afkers and blatant feed-throwers ive reported have had action taken against their accounts im leaning on the latter)
I agree. The other night I had an encounter with a guy on my team who was threatening rape and murder on me (I was the only one with a mic). I wonât repeat what was said to me but it left me very shaken up especially because I am a girl and he revealed we lived in the same area. I reported the player and then proceeded to ask for a follow up to see if anything had been done about it but they just said they were not able to disclose this information. The replay feature available is great â but I think if we had the option to toggle the voice chat that occurred in game, it could make reports 100 times more beneficial.
Thats really trashy, hope he gets banned soon.
One tip though.
Console players need to manually hide their info in the settings, you can just click on someones profile and get their IP and location. with that info you can easily get someones name.
I think on xbox one there is a setting to literally hide your real name, additionally you can choose to change your real name in the settings to like ââbill bobââ for example.
I dont own a console so im afraid i cant be specific but look into it, itâs really easy finding someones name or IP on console.
All of this is just a band-aid, the real problem is mouth breathers thinking its normal or funny to threaten someone. these people need to effing exit the human race.
I am pretty sure real life death threats are a one time permabannable offence.
I came here to say âget over itâ.
Leaving while saying âBloody hell, call the effing cops!â
You also need to do that on pc btw, I found it odd that blizzard had a setting that was automatically on to show to people you add ur full real name
You know, in âreal lifeâ you could bring charges to someone if they did that on the street. So why not in games too?
I know what Iâm suggesting may be a bit extreme for some but shouldnât there be a different reporting system for actual doxxing incidents? Where the report is dealt more swiftly, victim is given a full update, and even allow the victim to ask blizzard to provide personal data to press charges (In cases where they are in the same country)
That information conversation needs to be dug up by blizzard and passed on to the police.
in England you can.
In game chat is regarded as a public forum, and as such the police can act. But it would need Blizzards cooperation to supply the evidence and the players details.
(Note: Iâm a guy in case anyones wondering)
Thatâs damn scary, the fact this player found your personal info along with the other players makes it even more scary. Like, if I had my info leaked and everything (even if my account has no details of it) then I would be scared as hell, especially if they live close by.
I seriously hope action is taken because that is just messed up, that is a real-life threat and definitely reportable to not just Blizzard but to the local police as well.
I just hope that guy who threatened doesnât end up succeeding.
I dont believe for one second they could get all that info, its massively exaggerated, blizzard would not allow info like that to be easily accessible.
its actually really easyâŚbelieve it or not it takes about 2 minutes.
NGL, this sounds like the sort of thing youâd take to the police not a blizzard forum post.
Yea, and I get reported for saying âcan you kill *** healers?â
